Vampir Night Vision Scope

This is the Vampir night vision scope developed by the Germans originally for their tanks, and then modified to work for the infantry. The big lamp on top emitted infra red light, the scope under it allowed the shooter to see the light. This was issued primarily to StG troopers, snipers with K-43's, and MG's. It was powered by a big battery worn on the back (wooden case + lead battery = heavy f*cker). Maybe I'll make another version mounted to a K-43 sniper rifle. :D I plan to add a wire on the p_model leading to the back pack ONLY for when the StG is in the firers hands. Basically what I'll do is instead of just binding the wire to the same bone as the gun, I'll bind it to one of the spine bones so it follows the back pack and stretches to the gun.

Comments and constructive criticism welcome.

Nice work mate, I still cant find that book with more pics in but I'll keep looking for you.

If its any help to the skinner apparently the wire going from the lamp was always a dark green one lol

You gotta make a MG version for a laugh too :p

I'm also thinking of sticking it on the FG-42, MG's, and K43 (as a sniper rifle). If I do that, I need some custom red scope sprites made. Anyone up for it?

Looks great Cheeto, too bad it doesn't actually illuminate in game like the real deal. Sweet anyhow.

Sorry, now that I look at it closer, is the moustache painted on the window? I don't know what that clip is from, but when I first looked at it, it looked like you put it in the clip.

(back on topic)

Can't wait to see it skinned!

Aye, theres a black spec of dirt on the window. Its a joke from the series Father Ted. He's shouting at some Chinese people outside but because of the dirt on the window everyone thinks hes a facist/racist.

Very nice work, Btw what axis models are you using ? they look really nice.

UPDATE: I put it on Devin/Mixel's StG, used Sushis anims, shrunk the scope and lamp a bit, changed origins, and added a wire. I still have to futch with a p_model with a backpack battery, but it shouldn't take too long, I'm just lazy. :)

Have you thought about adding a big cone from the light, and then adding an additive texture to it, it may look pants, or it may not, but might be worth ago.

Cheeto

Hmmm, not a bad idea, but I don't think that it'd go over to well in dark places since it wouldn't cast light and then it'd look pantsy. Can always give it a go.

isn't it infrared anyway? I didn't think it was visible light...

Yes i've just read Cheeto's first post, that i had forgoten about, and he says it was infa red, so i guess that kicks that idea right out of the window....:).

Could you have the gun off to the side during idle, then looking through the scope when shooting?

Only problem with that is it would snap a bit whenever you shot, there wouldn't be a smooth transition between having it shouldered and looking through the scope.

Actually it's possible that it would be smooth. I've been messing with the old iron sight 30cal and it's only positioned in ironsight mode in the deployed anims, but the deploying anims are the standard ones, so they end in the non-ironsight positon, meaning there's a big jump between them. But ingame, when I deploy, it moves smoothly to the iron sight position, in total contradiction of how the anims work, because of the animaiton blending in HL. So it's possible it would go smoothly.
