Alternative to Iron Sights

I've been re-origing weapons from iron sight and back to shoulder view, and came up with something different while using Milkshape. I rotated the weapon from the top view and then redefined the placement of the x-hair by using Jeds HLMV. Here is a pic of the garand, you will notice that the red dot crosshair is in the middle of the front iron sight. The only issue I have is...there is a gap between the hand holding the weapon. Anyone know how to fix this?

Oh i see you mean the front sights of the model are actualy in the centre where the xhair is - sorry didnt quite understand what you meant.

Not sure about fixin the gap, but looks good.

My apologies for the bad picture, here is a pic of Brutals 98k that has been re-origined where you can clearly see where the x-hair is located. I am going to try to set up all the custom weapons into this type of view...time permitted.

Sorry to burst your bubble but I doubt many people would DL that. It'd be weird using it because the bullets would seem to bend because they aren't distanced far enough. But if that's what you're going for, who am I to judge?

Back in the glory days of this community (3.1 era) We had iron sights...good times

E321...what movie is your sig from, i wanna watch it

I remeber those ironsights. I remember glimsharp saying something on the red orchestra forums that the DOD dev team contacted him in case the mod was going to switch to iron sights.

Makes you think

Like I said before this is just an alternative to true iron sights. I've always used Glimsharp's is back in 3.1, then I decided to use my own in DOD 1.0, but to me it felt unrealistic running around with the weapon sticking out of you face or chest For instance Dillingers enfield in iron sight mode.

Since I've been working with Milkshape and rotating the weapons, all the hands are now getting distorted and are not placed correctly. Is there anybody out there that can give me a brief discription as to where or how the hands can be modified in Milkshape. I'm posting a 3.1 tommy to show the hand screw up.

I think you'll find that when the models are originally made and animated they are done so from the original view point. Hence, in that position the hands may not be perfectly aligned but look right. Its just when you move the weapons origin that the alignment errors are noticeable.

Well I was able to fix the hand issue, but now I've come across with a minor problem with the single bolt rifles. When the weapon is rotated using MSD, even tho I'm selecting the whole weapon, when I play the shoot or reload sequence the bolt is slightly mis-aligned.

What in the heck am I doing wrong, please help.

Here is the pic of the 31tommy with the correct hands!

is there a way to turn off the crosshairs, like the old iron sight models used to do in 3.1

Yes there is, if you're running DOD 1.1 you can use the following console command: cl_xhair_style 0.

I'm reluctant in showing the next pic....only because I know I will get HELL for it. Hate to use the dreaded "C" word, but I tried it in LAN running BOTS, and the aiming was precise. Well here goes, it will not be released.

i liek the idea of iron sights

i dont mine the sniper thing but i know ull get alot of sh*t from everyone else

it would be great if yoru accurace would be increased when in that mode but you would slow down for example like when u shouolder the zooka u slow down but when its off u still fun fast(u could still shoot in that mode but it would be like shooting is now)

My little boy (4) has been playing DOD since he was 2. Problem is that he does not graps the concept, no matter how often i tell him, that the red + is where you point the gun, not the tip of the barrel.
So he runs around shooting people high and to the left. There was a "shoulder pack" back in the day, but has not been ported for the current versions.
I would like to be able to do these myself, but lack the tools (milkshape?) and the knowledge (tutorials?) or resources (where are the MDLs now??)
He only uses the SMGs like the MP40, Tommy, and the britts version.
[GIMP]-Cochise-, is there any released of these. Either yours or someone else. I dont need fancy, just not ironsighted. These are close, the ones I liked before were out and down about 10 pixels, out of the way if I used it, but close enough to where he could hit people.

I always re-animated the weapon models for Iron Sight use. This made them look better in game (i.e no clipping/odd looking hand positions etc etc)

When the DoD Team released V1.0 they changed the code for X-Hairs. In the old days you could have some weapons with X-Hairs and others with Ironsight. Now you can only have all or nothing :(

Shame really.

Well I'm not good at re-animating, but I did fix the clipping issues!!

Since DoD V1.1 came out you can remove the x-hairs using the console command or thru a script.

I'm hoping to get these models released by Wednesday via my clan's Web site. There are some models that are set to iron sights (colt, lugar, webley, mg34, and mg42 when proned) the remaining are set to the alternate is mode.
