Pacific Theater Map

I'm fairly new to these forums, but I've been playing DoD since 2.0 and I already know most of you guys.
Well, here's a Pacific theater map I've been working on. It's based on the Saipan invasion in the movie "Windtalkers".
Unfortunately, it's not for Day of Defeat, but for my Pacific mod called "Shores of Victory (http://www.shoresofvictory.com)". We're due to release the mod within the month, and because this is a Beta 1 map, I'd really appreciate it if you WW2 guys could give me some tips.. since you guys are so good at that. Hopefully this thread won't get deleted because it's not for Day of Defeat, but I always saw how much you guys wanted a few Pacific maps, so here's your chance to see one.
Rspeeds are excellent. The highest is around 900, which is inside the guard tower overlooking most of the map. Anyway.. here's the goods:
Here's the main beachhead. It's full of craters, and at the moment I'm animating some Japanese planes that strafe the ground and bomb it.

This is the trench system that overlooks the beach.

The guard tower which overlooks most of the map.

This is taken inside a log machine gun bunker which is just high enough to view over the beach. The "shingle" is there to offer the Marines some cover from it. The weapon is the Japanese Type 96, btw.

If you guys would like to start making Pacific maps, we have a jungle wad on our website http://www.shoresofvictory.com , but be careful, because they're only legally allowed to be used on SoV maps. Thanks everyone :)

Looks like a DOD map... circa 1.3b :p
Its hard to map organic terrain, so thats a major drawback; but that said, it looks like its fun. You could if you wanted put in some models to reduce the sparsity (see attached palm tree - from some CS map :p).
BTW, since you're posting on here, could you do a version of this map for DOD? (Just change the entities to DOD ones?)
EDIT - on inspection of your site, it looks like the player models are using DOD 2.0 animations... tut tut :p.
And gosh... where HAVE I seen this Garand before? http://www.shoresofvictory.com/images/maps/sov_iwo03.JPG

Oh and Palm trees... the above is some random CS tree.
These are from CS_PACIFIC.

Thanks for the comments everyone.
That's actually our very own Garand, with 3.1 hand models. They were used as placeholders until we could get our own. I can't think of a single mod that doesn't use material from mods with basically "godlike" statuses temporarily, so for custom mods it's only natural to do so. We are NOT a DoD ripoff, but didn't want to release screenshots with those orange and black default Half-Life hands. Hopefully you can understand that :(
The palm tree models are great also, thanks so much. This constructive criticism is helping me a good bit, please keep the comments coming :)

Fair enough then.
But... you are allowed to use the blueshift hands!
Gearbox said anyone can use them in Mods/etc, as long as they aren't sold for profit.

I'm beginning to work those new models into the map. The "bigtree.mdl" would work great for the scene where the snipers are hidden in the trees, which will be past the bunker areas I showed you already. The main objective of the map is to destroy a few artillery guns, soo... should turn out well.
Again, thanks for everything.
btw.. the person who designed the layout for this map is Higgins, from the 3rd ID clan. Most of you probably know him already... thought I'd give him his due credit here.

Well obviously not those animations!!
You could try decompiling the model and using the hand meshes.
If you cant be arsed to do that, heres a craptastic version of the MP5 (low res MP5 texture to fit on here).

Yah i'd like to see that in DOD as well. Looks promising.

And the mod looks very promising ;)

THat map looks pretty good. Though i thought you could use any material from CS, DoD 1.0 because they are both retail products and as long as it isnt sold for profit it is legal. Yes please make a DoD version of this map!

I like everything except the guard tower. In a real war, a plane or ship would have that blown to high hell before any landings occur.
If you want a more realistic approach to a japanese defensive position, make a underground earthen bunker or caves.
If I had a bazooka in dod, itd be the first structure id take out.

That sounds like de_nuke, Voodoo!
BTW try taking out the forest towers.... actually I think thats a pretty good idea (if you can afford the entities).
Well I doubt he'll release a DOD version - that reduces incentive to play the mod. Still, I hope he wouldn't mind releasing a DOD version a little while after release. :)
OR... we could playtest the map for you in DOD ;) so thats an incentive to release it to us :D

sounds good. I hold playtests occasionally, depending on whether or not I can draw a large enough crowd to one of my maps. If you guys would like to test, join #shoresofvictory on gamesurge (i hate the switch to that, gamesnet sounds better :P)
i'm usually on between 5-10, eastern time, after weightlifting and football conditioning and everything.. my nick's SoV-Mike.. was gonna register as that in these forums, but some mucho idiot stole it before I could :(

That is a single tower, which I suggested he put up there simple as a way for the Japanese to overlook the entire beach a little better... There are four earthen bunkers, and a trench system to defend from. Two of the four bunkers are only accessable via underground tunnels.
It's looking better everyday, Mike. Keep up the great work!

good to hear. Im very excited about this mod.
And playtesting on dod would be a great idea to draw a larger crowd and more feedback, which is OBVIOUSLY why you posted here.
(btw cpt. higgins, long time no see you, anywhere!)
