Cheeto mentioned the other day we need a better car map model and I was thinking the same thing not so long ago.

So.... hacked this together in a few hours last night. Its based off a Citroen 11 but I've made it fairly generic so it doesnt matter what country your map is in.

This is only a rough base skin, Im still working on it but I've done a lot of the fiddly bits. The lines are just markers for seams that need to be added.

The windows will be transparent and it has an interior with seats, etc.

Good start Jed, your becoming a right little map modeler these days arn't you..:). Have you thought about maybe trying some transparent techniques to maybe get the wheels looking rounder.

Well its been bugging me for a while, a lot of the models are still left over from the first beta versions and I think really drag the overall quality of the maps down a bit. I mean, some of those cars just look plain fugly.

Yeah, I was going to try that when I finish tweaking the inside and I know what the final polycount will be. I'm estimating it'll be around 900 or so.

DUH that was the whole point of this model!....hehehe....i love people who dont read...but its lookin good for just a few hours of work...i can already see ripped Upholstery and a bent stearing wheel...would it be hard to make the windows breakable...that would be even sweeter...

I read it nubcake...

I was reacting to the fact that Jed was never a big fan of transparencies...

i see your at it again jed :) good work

but you know in order to make the windows semi transparent your going to have to model the windows too other wise the entire car will be semi transparent....

also while your making all these lovely models why dont you just record them while you making them and release a milkshape video tutorial ? :D

I'll get on with skinning it ASAP as something else has taken priority.

I originally did it to replace those ****ty default cars - I'll do one at the current size/scale and then re-size it down to fit within the bounds of the current models. That way you should be able to replace the old models with this one and the hit boxes wont be that far out.
