Bullet Puffs

Ave!

I always loved the little puffs made by the bullet hits when you were shooting on a wall in dod 3.1b. It felt like you were really shooting on something. With the 1.0 version and co, the puffs are more transparent and most of the time invisible to me. Anyway I'd like to have my little 3.1 puffs back (I must sound like an old whining 3.1 player :) ...).
I tried to put the following files in my sprite folder in steam without a result: shot_smoke.spr (+ shot_smoke 1 to 4), shot_dust.spr, ssharp1.spr, ssharp2.spr, ssharp3.spr, ssharp_old.spr...

Any idea which other file could make those puffs?

Help very appreciated.

Lord knows what I went through to get this question answered with a "positive" answer.

large_smoke_01_ind.spr & puff.spr

I don't know why there are two of them (maybe the one is played very short and the other is the long smoke or something like that)

--Quoted from my post a few weeks agp. Id still like to see a newer larger one. Thank you to KRAUT KILLER for the answer.

FYI: shot_smoke is exactly what it sounds like:
its the smoke that comes from the muzzle of your weapon fires. Hence "shot smoke"

Damn thanks a lot for the quick answer...I'll test that ASAP.

I've tried a few forums before asking here in the official one and yes I think I've experienced quite the same things as you Vodoo.

Thanks again.

Ok I've been playing with the different files... It seems it's large_smoke_01_ind.spr which is making a difference. I tried to edit it but it doesn't change much...I came to the conclusion that it was because these sprites were alpha indexed (those in 3.1 weren't?) but when I try to save my sprite in another indexed version, i get big black boxes instead of the puff...
Still I don't know what sprites were played in 3.1 as those two mentioned didn^t exist in 3.1., it may help...

So if anyone knows which files were used in 3.1 for those puffs or knows how to edit the 1.0 so that they get to something close to the 3.1 ones...it would be greatly appreciated

Ok I searched in the forums a bit more than I did first before posting here, I found this: http://www.dayofdefeat.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23936&highlight=bullet+puffs
It's too late now to test them so I will do that tomorrow...Anyway it seems at the same time very promissing and a bit dissappointing as the long and opaque 3.1 bullet hits puffs seems to be lost for us in 1.1...

BTW: It seems that the main things about those puffs are hardcoded so...:(

Hmm it seems I'm the only one interested in that subject....:(

Anyone?

You're not alone, I'm very interested in it as well. Yes, it would seem they are hardcoded. I tried to make a point to the Dod team about it in this thread.

I only hope they consider it...and then improve the current puff sprites.

Oups :o saw that thread but missed your post, I hope they will hear your advice because it was very well put...

I'll post in it too hoping that it gets a bit more attention in that way...

Thanks for your answer

I for one have been looking into getting around this.

Perhaps making a blood sprite (the dust one by Lt. Firmalo) could replace a wall hit sprite.

Hmm....

Ave!

I made a quick search for that sprite made by Lt. Firmalo, VoodooChild, but the links to download it are down, do you know where I could download it?

Thanks in advance for your answer...

P.S: Ave means "I salute you" in Latin :)

If all you're looking for is much more visible bullet impact sprites, all you really had to do was make there be more white in the sprite (white = more opaque, black = more transparent). The only draw back is that you have white puffs, but at least they're really visible. I've attached a completely original puff that I made if you don't want to go through the hassle of it all.

Im using it, however, if it's possible, can you make it dusty looking?

Also, most of us here believe that the current default needs improvement, especially after seeing Call of Duty's stuff. Man those are nice. Is it possible to rip them?

heres a in game pic of the sprite posted above:
