Here's a video explaining some of the details about player modelling and animating for HL2. The facial animation looks pretty damned cool and not too hard to do. Something that I imagine Jed is happy to hear. ;)

Doubt I'll be doing much for HL2. And I'd of done the face anims for 1.1 by now if I wasn't lost in the info fog at Valve.

Well, if you're willing to spend a little money the Noesis Interactive videos are pretty sweet. I've worked through several of them and definitely learned a lot. Unfortunately, no facial animation tutorials yet though.
