mmmmmkay. i don't know dick about mapping. but i have a suggestion for a map.

has anyone seen, the "the Castle Keep," directed by Sidney Pollack, and starring Burt Lancaster and Peter Falk*?

one of the main themes of the movie was the degredation of pieces of art by war. And i know that Patton went out of his way to save those really pretty horsies in vienna.

so, prehaps a type of map where a secondary or primary mission was to preserve the artistic integrity of works of art (including architecture) while fighting the enemy. prehaps a fictious (or non-fictional, History channel has tired me out on ww2 history) assualt on one of goering's palaces?

prehaps the works of art could be dynamic, much like the tanks and secret documents on jagd are.

a team gains points by either keeping the works of art, or retriving them and taking them to a jeep or truck or something. and their points are exponentially calculated by the degredation (or lack thereoff) on the works of art.

i think it could add a new aspect to the game.

i dunno. just a thought. fuzzdad, waldo, other acomplished mapmakers, your input?

or maybe i just wanna see an kraut assualt map like the final scene in "the Castle Keep."

*yes, Falk is Columbo.

On a related subject - see dod_festung_v4.
Its set in a castle, thats as near as it gets to your idea ATM.

Also, people like to make 'war-zone' maps... this isn't really such, but you could badger the maker of Festung to stick in some paintings or something.

i understand that. but my point is that most people would just run by, and shoot the art. but my idea is....to not shoot it. gain extra points, well, gain points only by not shooting the art. make people make sure their rounds counted.

Actually...that sounds like an interesting take on Jagd...accept this time instead of war plans the allies must steal back famous Van Goh paintings hidden around the map and return them to their safe house. In order to keep it from becoming a camp fest you'd have to have something of similar cost for the axis to either destroy or capture. You could do something like this to represent the castle:

meh, i think that it would make great for an easter egg...imagaine your running around killing krauts/yanks/brits when all of a sudden you hear Peter Falk say, "did you just hear a scream?"

and fuzzdad. i hate trees. but i like your maps. so you go do things. (maybe this idea).

so yeah, the 101st paradrops by goering's palace number 33 thousand to retrive the van goghs. and goerings paratroopers have to destroy some sort of gettaway vehicle. like a patoon boat or a kidded gooney bird somewheres.

man i wish i bothered to learn how map cool things like this.

but most importantly. Peter Falk deserves a easter egg!

oh bugger. did i just insure no peter falk easter egg? doh (i can always edit it out and use telepathy to make j00 all forget!)
