lo

Id like to know how Waldo made the shingle model that fits the size of the map/how to get a reference size of your map in milkshape? import?

Id also like to know how to set the .qc file to make models with transparent parts(dont know if this has already been posted elsewhere).

Hammer made prefab -> model with transparent stuff?

My guess :)

You can export objects from hammer into a .dxf format, then import into modeling software that accepts .dxf. Skin the model, compile and your set. It will stay the same scale as made in hammer.

nah its a model.

take a look at your models/mapmodels/ folder

charlie_shingle.mdl
charlie_wire.mdl

These models are fitting the map layout.

yes, it is a model. Just create a box in hammer, export it to .dxf format and load it into your model program

then create your model alongside the box, and then remove it when you are done :D

-you can also test to make sure its the correct size thanks to the new version of hammer's model-rendering capability

I tryied to export a part to .dxf
but once I imported it in milkshape,It only showed some vertices without surfaces.

Well that would be because Milkshape doesn't really like importing a .dxf file, at least not in my experience, 3d max on the other hand imported my whole map :) Almost perfectly.

thx Kami and monkeyboy :)

And about the .qc file for models with transparent textures?

Here's how we (molotov_billy and myself) did them.

First, I made some simple 4x4x64 "posts" - just normal brushes.

Then I placed them in Hammer at the spots I wanted to have posts for the barbed wire. I lined up the TOPS of them just where I wanted the tops to be.

Then exported JUST THE POSTS as a DXF file and sent to Jake (molotov).

Jake then imported them into 3ds Max, and used it as a guide to manually build the wire models. He did his own posts, his own wire between them, etc. The posts were intended to be just a guideline for where the wire should go.

Then he built the .mdl file, handed it to me, and I put it in the map.

By the way I think Jake has written a tutorial for the Valve-ERC (http://collective.valve-erc.com) website on how to create the transparent effect in a model.

How come you didnt do that "water off into the horizon" effect that dog1 invented, which was later imported into overlord2.1 for charlie?

Sorry, Waldo, I can't find Jake's tutorial there.
