dod_falaise update coming maybe...lol

I've been tweeking dod_falaise over the last few weeks...primarily minor changes; small bug fixes, added the official-looking mini-map, opened up a few more buildings, added tolchoks excellent truck model, some new roof textures courtesy of Klienluka plus cleaning up some of the sounds and a few other things.

It's a great map already (Fat Tony did a great job w/the original Bocage) but I thought it would be interesting to open up a few more windows...part of this "upgrade" is to submit it to the dev team and part is because I endlessly tweek my maps...so there.

God not blue lighting again... it's simply unreal and ugly ;-/...

It's looking better... light is great but destroy any part of blue hues in it !

just like in gilder... you walk near a ruble and suddenly you see it blue, it's just ruins the whole atmoshpere :-[.

hope i will change your mind.

I think the lighting is cool the way it is. The blue is only subtle so it is still ok.

Please!...for the love of god...put the 3 man cap back in the courtyard area!...that was what made Bocage so great...and not having it just removings the whole courtyard/apartments fights in the map...

yeah, i prefered the bocage style flag system. falaise had too many 2-man caps. I think the most multi-man caps a flag should have is 2.

And secondly. please fuzzdad for the love of santa, get a new hosting site, because verizon is blocked for me (And i think all of australia). I havent been able to see anything from that site since flugplatz... and early falaise screenies... then para_glider... and now... nothing :(

Perhaps tone the blue down a smidgen, keep the blue but not make it so obvious on the rubble piles.

In picture 1 with the ladder that side of the building looks odd as the texture doesnt match, I can see why your doing this but it looks weird, same in picture's 2,3 and 4.

Also that Vichy poster/painting/advert on the wall is perhaps a tad too bright, it's kinda eye catching from all the destruction around it.

Did the Germans target V1's at France? I was only aware of the ones against south east England.

Actually, when we tested it (several times) that was one of my complaints. But, I found that the 2-man at the tank is fine.

Yako, take ADVANTAGE of the fact that the courtyard is underused. I sneak through the middle apts. all the time.

As for the new pics. Looks nice. I prefer the current lighting, but, that's just me.

For those of you with "blue lighting" disease...I have not changed the lighting one bit from the current dod_falaise...I just have my gamma set real low and my brightness down low too.

And...tough nuts anyway...the blue lighting in shadows is what I want because it's "purty" and I like it...so there! lolol

The double caps have played really well on the custom servers and I've been asked by a number of clans/organizations not to change that...and having to go to a three-man cap would not ever work on a pub server...it's hard enough to get those regular pubbers to work together on anything much less a three-man flag cap. The only serious changes to the map are the new windows, a way to get up from either side of each new window and a room I opened up at the front of the tank...those will impact gameplay a bit...if in testing we find it's too much I'll cover them back up again.

I second Shane on the Hotel inside-routes...it's so easy to get to the other teams #1 flag that way or to sneak in behind the other team when everyone is storming the tank cap area...teams that either use those passageways or defend them usually win

I don;t disagree...I love the teamwork servers...but a three man cap would probably lead to the map not getting played as much...the low-IQ players would just not play it (we need the dark side as well as the rebel side) and you'd need (captain obvious remark coming) three people per side to cap the map...my guess is that a three-cap flag/objective/whatever would lower the maps playability quotient a bit and I'm not for that.

Enders: No...at least not yet. I've given the dev team a version of it to test but given the holidays and all I'm not sure when they'll get around to testing/approving/releasing any new maps...these things take a lot of time so even if I was told today that the map was going to be released it would probably take another month or so before it would drop into the "Steam".

What you can do is download the current version of it from a number of sites (kettles, CoJ, etc)...the map seems to be on rotation on one or two servers at any one time these days (I can always find a falaise match in the evening EST). This new version is not that much different than the current one other than the changes noted.

Godcha: As soon as I settle in on a "final" version I'll get it to you (several of the dev team members appreciate the bot waypoints so it makes sense to include them).

:( problem is I loved bocage although I've not played falaise to much but I rarely see it played other than on US servers were my ping is to high.

There seem to be no good and often used UK custom maps servers

Yeah...pub servers...cant get much teamwork on most of those...and anything above 2 man caps are tough for the map...you can see the 3 man cap in bocage stay neutral for a long time...

however...i dont play pub servers...i only play BFE...we have tremendous teamwork there and 3 man cap works great...it only enhances the teamwork and makes the BFE experience so much better...

we make our own 3 map caps on maps...:)

I can say i like green/purple lighting as well and put it in a map, still the issue is that it's just simpley UNREAL.
I don't think a map that should be go offical look unreal which countinues the blue line the dev team have dicided to go for.

Old gilder > new Gilder.
Old forest > new forest
And there are many more maps that were just painted with things not from this world :-[

I hope you won't release it like that... yes the new light is better overall but as i said before taking out the blue out of it will be for the best of the maps both in terms of realisim and beauty.

he just said he didnt change the lighting at all... its just people's anti-blue syndrome. And anyways, the lighting on glider is good, and kalt is realistic, because snow turns blue in the shade. I didnt even know the did a similar thing on forest, again, just peopls imagination and anti-blue syndrome.
