thats right. the bright red signs were a very good target for snipers!:)
but most soldiers still had them on their helmets.
btw: we need a new fallschirmjaeger reskin pack!:D

Slaytanic: Yeah, they stopped producing the helmets with the decals, and the order was to remove any decals you had. However, most soldiers never bothered with it.
Conscript: I focused almost all of my time on doing the 3rd ID set, after that I had planned to release the Rangers, but things fell apart and I kind of abandoned releasing anything else.
I do have AIM, though I prefer ICq. I'm old school that way.
Kraut: Already got something in the works. Not going to be with the main release, not as far as I know at least.

What we need are british replacments. The axis and allies are pretty good for the time being, but the brits are a little basic looking.

as far as i know.. in the production of producing helmets they took off the markings in 1943... but there still were helmets out there with the markings on in it in 1944

Update:
I think I'm gonna delay release of these until the weekend, that will give me some more time to test them.
Given the extra few days though, I might be able to squeeze out a 1st ID set or something to pad the release.

Any chance that when you do release you could also release a zip with just the textures? Since there are no actual model changes yet (due to the lack of a 1.0 compiler) it would make for a much smaller download for those that are familiar with HLMV. It migh even cut down on bandwidth useage by your hosts.
Also please consider doing sleeve textures to match whatever camo you make for the uniforms. Your peadot set is excellent and I'd like to see some arm textures to match.

I'm probably not going to cut out the models and just release the textures, while a good number of you guys here know how to apply them in HLMV, majority probably don't.
Besides, easiest way to reach the widest audience is through ease of installation. Hehe
As for view model textures? That is a big possability. I've been thinking about it just to do for myself. Maybe I'll use the extra days to do that.

All of them will have new helmets and the SS sets do have the Swastika on them (not that I care much, I just go for accuracy).
depends on what you mean, mostly what period of war your in :)
this is an exert from i sight i usually get symbols and insignia and other whatnot from :)
Use both decals if you are doing a pre-war or early-war helmet. After experience in Poland and France, an order in 1940 called for the removal and omission of future tri-color shields (red-white-black striped shield for Heer & Luftwaffe, shield with swastika for the SS). The bright colors were just too visible. Of course, as with any military, this was apparently adhered to only when necessary... there is plenty of photographic evidence showing double-decal helmets all the way to the end of the war.
An order dated 1943 called for the removal and omission of ANY decals on helmets. This would mean that ideally-speaking, the 1942 run of M42 shells would have had the National Eagle (or "SS" runes) decal applied in the factories, but after 1943 no decals should be seen on new helmets. In addition, many M35 & M40 shells were reconditioned and reissued all the way to the end, so these rules would apply to them too. To add further confusion, decals were available for private purchase, so it is conceivable that a sneaky Soldat might have applied his own double-decal job to his spanky-new M42 for whatever reason! The best late-war look is probably no decals at all, but of course, we'd like to sell you some decals...
Recommended reading for anyone wanting a diverse look at German helmet craziness is the 2-volume series by Branislav Radovic, "German Helmets of the Second World War".
now this is just what they say...but like i said, depends on what period you want yours to reflect :)

Hope not that C. Boniface guy, he's a jerk.
Awaiting zip files. The Allied skins are pretty nice, also the Pea Dot.

I dunno, I heard that Boniface guy was alright. Haven't talked to him much. He might host some.
I've also got the fine folks at www.kar*****.co.uk lined up to host the files.

05-07-2003, 10:59 PM
Oh yeah, as for the helmets, I've got the double decals on just for the hell of it. I know that late war they weren't produced with them on, but Germans could still buy decals themselves and a lot still had their originals with the decals... so I figure they can stay.
Besides, it does look kinda cool. Hehe.

Better you do use both, I hear that Bonifacey guy puts random JPEGs in the zip files he hosts. (PM Van)

I also heard that this Boniface guy is like obsessed with DoD and reads the forums all the time, even when eating dinner. But that's just a rumour.
At any rate, I've got my work cut out for me. Everyone here is so very picky! Hehe. Not that this is a bad thing.
On a side note, Tekk, your mailbox is full, and you cannot receive new PMs... so yeah.

At some point tonight or tomorrow I'll try to post some screens of the skins in action.
Before then though, Tekk's got a great combat photography post going in General that has some of the skins in it. Namely the Paras and Autumn Oak leaf set.
And then there was a link:

I didn't mean to suggest that you forgo the full model releases. I meant to suggest that you also release a zip with just the textures in addition to the zips with the regular model releases. BTW I'm glad to hear that you are considering doing the v_model sleeve textures as well.

05-10-2003, 11:54 AM
That cracks me up.
Censorship rocks!
Anyway, I haven't hit any real snags yet and I should be on target for a Sunday release. Hell of a mother's day gift, eh?
Anyway, 82nd set may be held back for a little bit cause I'm talking to Russ. about his 82nd models with the new heads.
So if something terrible happens and I end up not releasing certain sets, the only ones you wouldn't see are the rangers and/or the 82nd.
The axis camo sets are done, 100% and they will be released.
