I simply saying the there is a whole model skins and what not forum and ppl have got there posts locked for crappy (not so much crappy because its a good thing) posts that have nothing to do with releases.

Btw y post a thread like this when u don't really post much here anymore it took u a while to respond to my reply.

=DD=Wolf Kahler
12-25-2003, 09:53 PM
It takes a while for him to respond because he's in a different time zone [I believe? or am I confusing you with someone else in that respect because someone else said you were in England?].

Considering how much DWW has contributed to DoD from the earliest days [no, I'm not confusing you with anyone else in that respect -.-], I wouldn't stress the "right post in the right forum" stuff too much, myself, nor would I choose to rag on the guy. Fame should have at the very least the smallest of priviledges. It's not like he's some bum off the street raving lunacies.

HE'S WISHING YOU MERRY CHRISTMAS FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!!!

I personally appreciate his decision to be there for and help any new members of the community that were coming to us as soon as DoD went retail. However, I do NOT appreciate how he's being treated by those same new people who haven't been there to know.

I seem to be having to feel that way a lot lately... New young punks barging in, thinking they own everything, showing absolutely no respect for the people who actually made this such a great community that any of you would possibly want to stay in...

Lol young punks. I don't no if you are refering to young as in my age but if you are im 17 and well considering this is a online computer game i would say that that is a mature age limit.

Or if you are refering to the time i have been on these forums lol lol lol lol lol lol lol. Thats really funny. I might'n have been around for as long as Dances or whateva but ive been around longer then i have eva known you.

I'm sorry, did I list either of your names? Are you feeling targetted or guilty in any way?

Don't worry about it too much, Swede. If you have it in you to appologize, there's hope.

In general, seventeen may be a "reasonable" age for computer games like Quake, Unreal and Counter-Strike, but remember that there are some DoD players who were in Vietnam, if not born shortly thereafter. Their excellent attitudes toward fair play and sense of community are part of what made the DoD community something more than special.

While you may feel self-important for surviving so many long years as seventeen, you seem to forget that seventeen doesn't mean squat when you're kicking dirt at someone more than twice your age just for the hell of it.

Wow, guys. Just... Wow. One of the Old Guard comes out of hiding long enough to wish us all Amerry Christmas and a Happy New Year and you'd think he'd dropped a diesel bomb on the place. Chill the f*ck out.

DWW, I remember you from before you had anything to do with MSA, and I've enjoyed seeing you and others continue on the tradition of MSA. :) Remember my old BoB sound packs that I was doing before Mercatorn and Rusty and... Freedom Fighter, lol? You were there along with a few others who were really supportive, and I never forgot that, so I just wanted to wish you a Happy New Year and great luck with whatever projects you have going on.

To everyone else: This guy earned my respect because he's been around a long time and was supportive, enthusiastic and nice to everyone even when others weren't so much. Some of you could stand to sit back and take a nice deep breath before you post. This is why the old-timers are leaving. Happy Holidays

Zao, seriously man u nearly brough a tear to my eye, thanks man... and yeah i rememebr ure BoB work :) it was the best :)

thanks too cheeseburger, appreciated kid.

and Ska... it aint just steam..... it was when dod went official more than anything, we were flooded with noobs.

dont get me wrong the DoD team deserved to be VERY well paid for the ahrd work,e ffort and FANTASTIC quality of goods thye'd released to us. the problem was to get that money they effectively killed the game by over noobing it and limiting what the editers (us lot) could do, by over simplifying gameplay and over complifying editing, it was a sure loss. which is a great shame :(,

i heard the new patch goes a long way to taking it back to how good it used to be, but even so, i think it will be a long time yet till DoD was as good as it was befoer public release.

well here is to a fantatic 2004, hopefully in this year we shall see the old DoD get back to how it used to be :) lets face it, id rather we all clubbed together and paid the DoD team whatever they made thru valve, so that none of this ever happened :)

maybe one day us old timers will be able to come back :)

This thread my freinds, is a perfect example of why alot of us left. im surprised people still help people around here. This was a family, and its new members have stepped into a dying generation. DOD isnt going to last forever and has already reached its decline.

So lets not let this community go out with a bunch of us stabbing eachother. please..

i know E-respect isnt very solid, but good things come from it. ive seen what it can do, and ive participated in many a project that went on here. its just sad that this community isnt holding up. (at least i dont think it is.)

i know this is late, but i hope you all had a merry christmas, and have a good new year.

Thanks, you too Cheeseburger. Happy new year, people..especially to the MSA community and the DoD team..even though it is kinda late:) I don't know why I'm saying this but like Russ said, this was a family and it still is. The thing is, we're all getting older and so is DoD..there was a time for a period of about 2 years I had a love-hate relationship with DoD. I would play it continuosly in a month, find me a new game and stop playing DoD then when I was sick of the new game I always had DoD to turn to. I just woke up from a pleasant dream which was DoD. I probably won't be playing DoD until it comes out on a better engine.

Thanks everyoneee!! I just wanted to say that :)

Heh. Thanks. The weapon sounds I did sucked ass, but they were the first. I was happier with the other stuff, explosions and voice commands 'n such.

Anyways, I agree with what you said, and what Russ said. All of us old timers know why we left and it comes down to just a very few things. 1.0 completely lost the spirit of DoD. It was just such a huge leap in game feel and then came the new people. Many were arrogant, rude and abusive. They were classic new people. They played their part the way it written to be played. The problem was, however, that they came to DoD in waves, in ways we didn't. They got DoD for Christmas, we got it because we heard about it from a friend who couldn't stop playing it. We hunted for links and finally found one from Germany that took five hours to finish because it was right before another release and there were no mirrors. We installed it, played on one of the 100 servers and stayed up all that night and most of the next day nearly jumping out of our chairs when surprised by the guy with his youth knife out chasing our butts all over the ruined top of the building in caen across from the bank. We found the game forums, read through them and saw such a coloful array of people and topics that we decided to register and contribute whatever we could. We've seen people show up, piss a bunch of people off and leave. We've gotten into flame wars with people who later became moderators (three times in my case, lol). We've been around since before many of the more recognized members of the forums joined. We've had arguments with people that ended in their permanent bans, and we've been threatened with bans ourselves. We've been flamed endlessly by people who have no clue what they're talking about. We've seen people who were really stupid become urban legends (Gangs  ). We've seen DoD go from being a really fun game with a cult following to a semi fun game with a slightly larger following at the cost of the old-guard hardcore fans. Now you have a community burgeoning on the type of temporariness of the MOH:AA crew. DoD had it's time, and I know it sounds melodramatic and sappy, but in regards to the community and our role in it as the "old people," well... We've had our time, too.

I agree with Lt. Firmalo. I'm mostly done with DoD until it's on another engine.

Btw, Russ... What band is that in your sig?

Dances w Wolves
01-10-2004, 11:00 AM
Zao, never a truer word said, i wish there was some way the DoD Team could rectify it to the way it used to be.

but i doubt they'd even want to bother. They got their cash, there's barely been any updates sine 1.0, or attention paid, they got their cash so we don't matter any more.

WHat does steam do? whats it good for? does it do anything better?

where do i download it and what else do i need to download?

cus i wanna see if 1.1s even the slightest improvement.

01-10-2004, 11:16 AM
Actually... I hate to admit it, but Steam is not as bad as I previously thought it to be. It lets you do a lot of things you can't do with WON, and after much patching and updating is a pretty good utility overall, but as far as I'm concerned it did more immediate harm than good to the DoD community. It split it right in half, and most of those who stuck with WON haven't come back. You can get steam at www.steampowered.com and once you install the Steam client, you can choose which games you want it to install. That should only take a half hour to 45 mins on a good cable connection, but if you want to skip that, you can download it with the DoD files included which might save you some time. Either way, it seems to work pretty well now. You can browse for servers in-game. There's a friends list, and you can see what games they are in from within Steam while playing. You can text message with your buddies from in-game, etc. It also auto-updates the game automatically and is quite quick, which means when a new release comes out, there's no link spammage and waiting for literally hours to find a good download to play. It's really a good thing that came way too late to do much good in our case. If it had been around before b2.0... then it might not have been the killer that it was to the community. Anyways, if you have any problems, or can't get it to work, we actually have a Steam forum here. It's right under General and any and every problem you could possibly have is in there with some fix or another. As far as gameplay fixes... there's way too many to really list, except that they finally fixed the mg42 :D Hope you get it working :)
