I happened to visit the Valve-Erc Collective web site, one every half-life mapper should frequent. This was posted Monday, December 15.

I found this program in devlopement by Nems,
to be called "GCF SCAPE"
(also authour of the Batch Compiler and Terrain Editor)

This program will allow users to navigate .gfc files, and export them. The files which store all our missing/hidden files that we want and need access too to customize and map for our HL games.

Here is the link:
Valve Collective (essiential site for mappers)

This is going to make a lot of people very happy. Read what it has to say.

Happy to be the bearer of good news

Chris "Autolycus" Bokitch (who runs Valve ERC) and I are pushing hard to get some kind of official support for this kind of tool. We realize how important it is for mappers & mod makers - and how it "sucks" that you can't get to that stuff in the Steam cache.

Yes an official tool would be good, although Jeds version is bound to be extra '1337'. Just like HLMV
