Yesterday i found a old-cd wich contained dod2.0... i played a little bit with sturmbot... and remembered that map dod_dog1... It was from invasionworks uh? Iīve tried to run it into dod1.0... but i have problems with bushes... put fps go great... so it would only be a little re-touches...

Could someone (please...) remake this map to dod1.0 (quiting out that... "map" called charlie... :mad: )?

I'd like that as well. I never really had a chance to play dog1 (since when it was official I hardly ever played dod) but thought it was an outstanding map when I finally got the 3.1 version. A 1.1 version would be great!

ever since dog1 was kicked out, dog1 has been quite a forbidden subject to discuss. :D as i recall, the author of the map and the rest of the world apart from inw got in a little disagreement to say the least, and i would expect the moon fall down and the sun turn into a box instead of a sphere before dog1 was remade for dod.

mmmh that sounds really bad... It was the best landing map iīve ever played... TOO much better than charlie... iīm agree... charlie has a lot of work... but i wonīt call it a map...

Can anyone convert the sun into a box?

What if someone were to hack the map and retexture and retouch the map? I think that might piss off the maker though.:)

Nah, not really. Dim Reaper seems to have disappeared, and seeing as how he's the only one with the source to the map, there isn't much that can be done.

Well I didn't have a chance to play much, but from the short times I spent on it (and the playing with bots in the 3.1 version) I loved the atmosphere. It was, in my opinion, very real. I never new such an accurate (to me, at least) reproduction of the feel of d-day could be made to run on the half-life engine. I have played around with several beach maps of my own, but none have gotten very far past just the beach. (except for one, but the beach isn't the main part). I could never get that dog_1 feeling.

Maybe the full story about the Dog 1 debacle should be revealed? I'd really like to know how the greatest beach map ever was given the boot.

Yeah i've heard the texture problem story, but frankly i believe there was more to it than that.

Dim was great guy he helped me alot when i first started mapping. He's been gone alltogether lately like Andy said. He even left GreenLight hanging. But don't expect it to come back.

The thing of the 5mb wad from original version...well iīm agree with rotzbua... itīs not a reason at least... glider wad itīs 15mb full of textures... (I also love it fd! donīt get angry with me!)

Start dog1 from 0 itīs a stupid idea... need to find dim...

For some insane reason whenever i played that map i felt like i was storming the beaches of Normandy along side Cpt. Miller
( As seen in Saving Private Ryan :p )

Whew i remeber the good ol' days. Firing my Garand at the MG nests and hearing the ambience and explosions around me. And the guy in the server who thinks hes the leader yealling "Take cover!" LOL! I just watched and laughed at him. I remeber one of the guys yelling take cover..seconds before he gets nailed by a Sniper and i was right behind him too :D

dog1 was also my favourite beach map in the good old times!...i discovered it at fakedawg's site as an alpha build :>...i still have the install .zip :D...i made some screenies of the 1.3b alpha...it wasn't very close to the final build in the dod beta 2.0 but the beach area is pretty similar!...

bsp2map anyone? The 2.0 version was the best. 3.1 one sucked big flabby fat man ass because it had less flags, thus making half of the map completely useless.

What a stupid reason to get rid of a map because of SIZE. Jesus christ, the more large maps the better, and the more diverse the textures, the better. I can't stand the current trend of making tiny maps like Flash and Switch. We need big open hilly plains, maybe mixed with city areas. Volonne anyone?

Omaha was probly the most fun beach map ever but would not fit well with the new 1.0 gameplay

Charlie is probly the best all around beach map for dod but there were no measures taken to optimize it, i doubt the mapper even vised it in the initial release and it too had some awful brushwork

I was working on a beach map for dod but got borred with the limits of the hl1 engine and the fact that dod is dieing out quite rapidly thanks to the noobification brought to it by going retail, now it is more of a mohaa clone using an old engine

To bad too, it would have been a great game had it not been watered down so much

the 'noobification' as you call it is evened out by the 'noob filter' called steam. And I don't see any bad brushwork on dog1 and charlie. What are you talking about??

By noobification i mean the things that use to be great about dod have been changed such as autoreload (i know u can turn it off), deathcam, player icons ect

The mod has just turned into such a joke, everything good about it has been changed for the sake of allowing noobs to save 2 minutes on the learning curve and steam has also had a bad effect on the mod

Since dod went to steam the amount of people playing it has steadily decreased

I still get the urge to play dod from time to time but not nearly as much as i use to due to the fact that it is being made to cater to noobs

we are all sad that you play less now, but this is not the place to discuss mistakes of dod/steam. If I remember right this thread is about dod_dog1.

As for the map source. Dim Reaper made it. And I know he sent it to at least ONE guy. I don't remember who but it was someone who wanted to make a movie about the map. Anyone remember ?

I just have to comment on what NC17 said...

Actually, since the release of steam I have seen the number of servers steadily increasing. When I played DoD on WON there were somewhere in the range of 500 servers max....now it gets up to near 1000, and that's not counting the servers that are still WON.

He sent a .dxf of dog1 to some guy at dodstudios, not really sure what happned to it.

Bad brushwork, like what? because the brushwork was very ingenious i think, it was detailed for how open it was and allowed playable wpoly. Also, that "noobish map work" was made in 1.3 and was way ahead of its time and still holds it own against most of the offical maps today.

Agree, also charlie is a great map from mapping viewpoint, but itīs worrying and frustrating, the wpoly are (...!) high and the i, personally, donīt like the brushwork, I prefer the smart and the simple beauty and realism of dog1.
