Should be done tonight...fullfilling a promise made a long time ago to re-do the current dod_glider BACK to a para map for those few...those VERY few who like that kind of map. Not too many changes to the dod_glider but it's like the original para_glider with either the radio room to blow up OR the radar AND the 88mm. All can be taken out w/satchel or bazooka.
I did change the map ambience to a rainy day so that will add some lag but "oh well, the end"...don't expect much here dudes...it's just a several hour remake of glider back into a para map so it's not like I really did anything much other than to putz w/some entities and re-do a bit of brush-work here and there...I expect r_speeds to be similiar and because of the rain maybe a tad worse in spots. Why not make it at night? A continuation of dod_glider's evening setting.
I was thinking you could set up the gameplay by providing spawns first for both teams first. After 4 min, you remove the spawns for the Allies. The Allies must destroy at least 3 assets before pulling out with at least 5 surviving men! If at anytime the whole map breaks its 5 man capture all-encompassing zone, then the Allies lose.The map is 5 minutes. This is a typical raid operation, a quick attack, and an exfiltration after that.
Or you could make it para immeidately.
Whatever it is, night will really have its atmosphere. Imagine the crickets.
You could have a glider map with both no-respawn and respawn incorporated into it. Basically, you swap the info_doddetect before the beginning of each round, a rainy map being a no-respawn map and a non-rainy map being a respawning map. It all depends on the weather. THe weather will be randomly set per round (using multimanager random choose probability). Use of different sounds in weather will be used. If it rains, then there'll be no respawns (tough luck, guys...).

HELL YES!! I've wanted a para map for ages, and with hedgerow being talked about being released again, 1.1 custom maps are gonna rock!! And Fuzzdad, can u please make it night?

The lighting is too yellow for rain. Don't make it dark, but make it have a grey light.

I agree, the lighting is too bright/yellow tone it down a little, AND the shadows still seem a little bit too sharp for a rainy day, there should practically be no shadows at all.
And I should know, I live in Vancouver!

Killer, I like DoD with the no respawn settings. And yeah, I say make it night, as well. This and Hedgerow would kickass as night maps.

Well...test this version first...I think Shane has the source files and I think he's going to schedule a quick test up on CoJ later tonight. I have no idea if it runs outside of my PC so he'll have to test first and make the files available to d/l. If that test goes well when I get back from holiday I'll try and come up with a night version...this one is kinda in-between and although night maps are cool...add night map to para map and the only people whop will play it will be those responding to this thread...LOLOL.
But...since this is for you guys if that's what you want I'll change it around and we'll test it next week sometime.

Good ol' Vancouver...well technically I'm a Burnaby-ite. But for simplicity's sake I'm from Vancouver. Although I do recall DoD being a fairly Western Canada/US mod, at least in the early days.

i think it could be fun as a night map. Especially if it was like hedgerow, where you could still see pretty clearly, but you could tell it was night. Sort of like those old tv shows that would film during the day but use a filter to make it look like night. The brady bunch did that in the episode where they go camping and bobby sneaks hotdogs and beans in a flashlight to an indian kid at the grand canyon.

Wow that looks so much better that the 1.1 glider. That should be made normal (non para) and put in as an official map replacing the current glider.

I love u and ur maps, and rain does make it look good, but I dont like that kind of attitude from a Mapper/developer etc.

Its a great map. :)
We just tested this and had about 18 people playing. I'd really forgotten HOW MUCH para playstyle was so different. Granted, its not for everyone, but those who like it enjoy the strikingly different feel of play. Everything slows way down and there's a lot more anxiety. Even if you die, its fun rooting on teammates trying to get that last point or take down that last enemy.
I do hope the cosmetic changes make it into dod_glider. I was glad to see the elevator replaced by a really nice staircase. I think that would work great in dod_glider as a way to allow a quite approach from the rear to the radio room. This would balance out the loss of the ability to destroy the radio room w/ a rocket from below.
Anyway, can't wait for the final version.

i reckon glider should be set at the crack of dawn, minutes after sunrise. i havent seen a map with that real sunrise feeling. sharp light_environment pitch angle...long shadows...low light levels...the morningdew sky is just proably a little too light for it though...
just my opinion.

Playtest went great on CoJ...gonna test again before the release and I'll have the release...tomorrow...sound like a deal?
Changes from dod_glider:
1) para map (doh)
2) No mortars
3) Rain
4) Overcast...no blue shadows
5) Removed all anti-camp deals
6) Moved all axis spawns back to the house thingee by castle
7) Removed lift, put in staircase and a ton more crates (sry...I love crates), and a kettlekraft thingee.
8) Brought back my famous win victory music
9) Played with the rubble in front of the castle a bit
10) Fixed a pretty big exploit
11) Added Skeletor
12) Cleaned up a few null texture places
13) Removed over 100 entities that the para map didn't need
14) Added a voice of anguish to poor ole Bessie upon hamburger time.
It's true...the rain will add some lag and it's also true I really don't care too much...for gawds sake it's a para map...you can add detail and push some limits on these babies because there's not going to be that many people running around blasting and exploding things...it's the nature of the para maps that allows you to get away w/a few more polies and things...so sue me if your pc lags out :)

I also thought there were going to be 'classic' maps in 1.1 Maybe that's in the real release though, not the steam only test

When did they say that? Everything I have read keeps emphisizing that Valve is completely moving over to Steam, so we won't be seeing anymore Valve made WON releases.

That downloadable version of 1.1 for won , will happen when 1.1 ceases to be beta . And that install will transfor your normal won instalation into full 1.1 instalation in Steam .
No more won.
Sticking to the topic , i really like this version of glider ... it was the best para map !!:D
