[Release] DoD_Verdun_final

*****paw (http://personal.inet.fi/koti/akku.hirvonen/) made a few changes and has released a final version of Verdun.

Primary changes:
*4 flags instead of 6.
*Additional cover on middle for the Allied side.
*Axis now para.

*****paw doesn't have an account here so I'm posting this for him.

I meant to do a nicer presentation, lots of pics, etc... but I haven't had time to do so and wanted to get this out for him.

The d/l at CoJ has a pic that shows the new structure in the very left corner.

If someone else wants to tack on pics, please do. If anyone can add mirrors, let me know and I'll edit them into this thread.

HOLY-**** !

No doubt one of the best maps for dod ever made.
The whole area near the bridge... in the field ! gives me the hard on :P

It can be so much fun mging there and sniping... also storming on that village in the end under heavy fire... WOW

you know what can be really cool ? making it a night map, or relasing a night version. i can imagine Mg bullets flying all over lighting up the whole place... ahhh... custom maps ;-)

GFJ m8, damn good job !

Not bashing the map, but was there any fighting at Verdun in WW2 at all?

its pretty good, there may be a few too many paths though.

somethings don't make sense. where's the roof on that one building? why is the rest of it perfectly intact?

anyways i'll give you props since its got that warm kamikazi feeling.

I just ran around myself and it looks like it would be an enormous amout of fun!

Unfortunately unless it becomes official i'll never be able to experience it. Coldline was another map i'd love to play but can't due to lack of custom map servers..

One thing i noticed is that map has more of a "war" atmosphere than half of the official DoD maps? How are these amatuers capturing that feeling better than the pros! What's going on here!!?! Coldline is the same!

yeah. for some reason custom maps, even in 3.1, had more of a "war" feel to it than any of the official maps out there.

dod_clervaux3b was one, dod_crete, adn dod_verdun were my fav maps (official or not) of all time!!
the layout for all those maps are just great. too bad ppl dont' play custom maps as much as they used too.
god i miss 3.1

verdun reminds me of BoB's battle of Foy and clervaux3b reminds me of Carentan! its just great!:D
EDIT: ohh yeah, and dod_meanstreets was also great. too bad you couldnt' enter most of the building though like you can in clervaux!

escape aka bridge was originally a custom map. And i just wish people would play something besides avalanche. It's turning into the dust of dod

Now this would be awesome if you could make it with snow textures as Flash had.. the ones where you could use either or for the seasons..

If it had the festung snowy feel.. that would rock.

IIRC the U.S. 7th Armored Division went through there.
Some of their elements captured and held a Bridge near there. Among other things.

Cool map, looks incredible :D

But what does Verdun has to do with WW-2? Verdun was a bloody and famous battle location in WW-1, ladies...

That doesn't mean that there were no fights in Verdun during WW-2... But I'm sorry, this is a pure WW-1 battle location!

Whatever...

itīs just a name. He could have named it dod_tUbg1rlshouse and it would have changed nothing concerning gameplay and layout.

i have followed this map from the days of v3.1, before all these flash new models came with the game, and seeing it now with these new models is like seeing your baby brother 10 years on. its beutifull.

Just got back from playing it with 20 players on the dodmaps.com server, itīs probably the best verdun version Iīve played yet, great work, although itīs a bit too much sniper-heaven for me. Well, I guess strict class limits will take care of that problem.. this map is going to stay in our rotation :D

That's why we need more historical maps around here. Give me a map made from photographs where the name actually means something.

Has anyone else noticed that when whoever made the map, he included 2 victory music files for the Allies and the Axis? Having both play at the same time is just awful!! How could anyone say this is the "final" map if it has that error? Is everybody elses map playing 2 songs at the end, too? This is how it looks in my copy:

I'll listen/check next time I play it. Funny thing is, out of habit I hit stopsound whenever I hear victory music, so I probably it.
