Getting Started as a Mapper

I finally decided to take a shot at making a DoD map. I have a few simple questions.
What software does everyone use to create maps? Is it pretty user friendly? (I am pretty proficient in 3d modeling using either Maya or Lightwave animation software, so it shouldn't be too hard for me).
Is there any good sites for DoD influenced textures and models?
Any help would be appreciated :D

there are a few tutorials over in the help section - which is where you should have posted this, there are quite a few good .wads around for textures.
most mappers dont make their own map models but you can make me a deuce and a half and a set of steel bunkbeds for helping you :)

I used all of the above links when I first started and they're great ;)
Invasion Works has a lot of textures and models:

If you're looking for general mapping tutorials and info on Hammer/Worldcraft, then also try to search for "Half-Life Mapping" or "Counter-Strike Mapping" in Google.
Oh, and try the Valve-ERC:

When your mapping one thing that will be infinatly helpfull is a good understanding of how and why the HL engine does what it does. All the technical ins and outs of the engine are what can set your map from 2fps to 30fps and fame. There never really was a tutorial compiled of how the HL engine did what itdid because tere is so much to cover. simply experiment and when you don't understand ask in these forums and we should be able to explain it.
