Supereggs in a map

Has any mapper out there given any thought about adding a superegg to a map?

thats just what I would call it, since it is much more than a regular easter egg.

for example, the action halflife map ahl_5am by Hondo. Although this mod isn't my favorite, I do enjoy it and this map has a great and quite amazing easter egg, and its one of the best I have ever seen in a hl map.
It involves getting to a secret area of the map using an easter egg, but that is only the beginning. once you are in there is a puzzle to solve, and the puzzle involves completing 9 levels that each will give you access to the next area. it is all controlled by a central clock that moves its hands around the numbers as you solve the puzzle. I didnt solve it myself, sadly, I used Suparjerk's guide (http://oregonstate.edu/~taylorad/crap/ahl_5am.php) for tips on going through it...seriously, though, if you have the hd space and spare time, i recommend checking this map out, it really is mind boggling how long it must have taken to set this up. it was fun, even though i had the tips, because some of it is very hard to actually do...and it was cool to see.

It would be very cool to see something like this in a dod map. although I dont know if there is time for this type of endeavor with the team due to having to focus on playable official maps, but if there would be then cool...I would love to see it. if anyone else could do it then that would be cool too....I am not at the level of mapping it would take to do something like this, but would love to spend time figuring a map like this out. what do you think?

The only caveats I can see are:

1) the extra time it would take to plan this out and create it on top of making the map itself.
2) the extra file size due to the extra content that a non adventuresome player would never even realize was there.
3) making the map good enough that most people would still play the map online due to its fun factor, and not simply discard the map as a specialty map.

you put forward good points and you've obviously thought about it, yet there is 1 key thing any high level mapper would realize instantly.

Entity counts. Super eggs are fun and cool sure, but 9/10 Mappers are cursing this limit or that one. Entity data limit is one of them. A super egg could be done but it would be highly detrimental to the look and playability of the map if it were to be high quality.

Dsn't mean i dont wanna see one just its not likely :D

you know i thought about that, and its true....i don't know what the entity limit is, so I assumed that if it can be done in action halflife, then it can also be done in dod, since its the same engine. somehow Hondo was able to make the map look good and play well, for what it is. it has alot of close quarter deathmatch areas, which i think makes it play better as a deathmatch map, and in this way it limits the necessary entities because it is mostly bsp.
i suppose it couldnt have very many models either, if it was to keep the limit... however, ahl_5am doesnt have as many entities as a dod map..... i would think, as it is a deathmatch type of map, so it doesnt require the same entities to function...again, I am limited by my kowledge of action hl pertaining to how many entities it would take to make a map function normally, before you add the super egg.
in any case, if it is possible to do this.....then being able to make something like this happen, considering all the limits involved, is quite a challenge and a puzzle in and of itself.

(btw - i typoed earlier: "the puzzle involves completing 9 levels"...it should be 12 total, i was thinking at the time about the fact that 9 has yet to be reached by this guide.)

I've had a few of these before. But I think for my next full release I'll have a few things like that with easter eggs that require teamwork ;)
