Has anyone else noticed (In the shrinking dod community :( ) that the want for reskinned and slinged weapons are on the rise. I always thought the slings were kool, because they added more realism and accuracy to the weapons. Also they looked damn nifty...... Anyways I have noticed lately that more and more people have been requesting 1.0 and 3.1 models and animations for slings. I agree with them all, I like slings :)
P.S. For the people who think the animations while running are hard while moving ::I have no experience at all with animations or modeling [am trying to start;) ] but is it that hard?:: what is the problem? even RO dosn't have them moving while in motion except when running. And they had them in 3.1. No offense to anyone.
Okay my overly long speal is over
would like some feedback if you may my kool Dod community!!!!!

You have about 12 linked bones that have to fold, bounce, move, slide, bend, and react like cloth. Milskshape (what everyone I know uses to animate) hasn't got IK or any sort of helpful tools to make that job easy. So you have do it yourself...bone...by...bone. It's a pain in the ass for something that's usually only seen during a reload sequence.

thats why i keep requesting slings on all the new mods i see... if they had them in 3.1 then why not have them now? the same goes for some of the sick 3.1 animations, like the old thompson had.

Cheeto that sounds horrible. Did they do that in the prior version in the slings aka 3.1, 2.1 and any others

They've been done that way since the slings were around. No other real way to do it. I think Glimmy is about the only to animate a sling, and he did it once.

They probably did, although you can use 3d max for making anim's and saving out as smd files, or so i'm told, and as far as i know 3d max supports IK.
I myself use Milkshape for playing with animating, although it's really limited, a bit like milksape in general, the only other thing i use it for is converting model formats, but i guess when it comes to modeling programs, you get what you pay for.

I did it once too ya know...
It wasn't really a pain in the ass, just keep 1 rule in mind:
The sling wants to stay down.
Keep that in mind and you will suceed in sling animation.
Well, i managed to convert the 3.1 thompson to 1.0. It has a fully functioning sling on it, the 1.0 hands, and those good 3.1 reload animations.
For some strange reason in 1.0 you don't pull the bolt back.
If anyones interested in this i'll release it.

Thats because IRL the thompson fires with an open bolt, it does not require "cocking".
:D
Haha! It all makes sense now :)

Koolness! :D Will use..
Hmmm I wonder if someone could make a High Res Skin for it that would rock!
the main reason is in 3.1 we could push the evelope more. but with 1.0 we got our fingers trodden on cause we'd pushed it too far for the engine revamp. slings require lotsa polys and time to look cool, and now when we can't go so overboard on polys people are forced to leave them out purely for time and epoly's sake.
Still nifty :D
