O.K. If you've not used DOD before here's a quick run through.

First up, for simplicities sake, put studiomdl.exe into the same folder as you .qc file, smd's and textures.

You need to put the folder with all this in somewhere easy to find. The desktop can take some navigating in DOS so I would recommend something like a folder called "joe_models" on C: drive.

Once its there, press the "start" button and click "Run" which brings up a little dialog box. Into this box type "cmd" and press O.K and the DOS box will pop up.

Now, to move to you "joe_models" folder which was on C: drive type in the DOS box:

cd "c:\joe_models"

and press return. The quotation marks are to help it find long folder names (greater than 8 characters). XP doesnt really need them but XP or windows 98 does.

Now your DOS box should now be saying:

C:\joe_models>

So we're in the right place. Now, next you have to run the compiler manually so type in the DOS box.

studiomdl.exe name-of-you.qc

and obviously use the correct name for your .qc file. Assuming studiomdl.exe and your qc are in that folder it should start to run.

Now, IF there is an error, it wont close the DOS box and you'll be able to see what the problem is.

If you cant figure out how to fix it yourself, post the error message here and we'll be able to help you work it out.

still nothing. if i emailed them to you could compile them for me?

I fixed it. But there's one problem. Since these were 3.1 models, they look alot smaller than 1.0 models in the game. Do I need to stretch them out or rescale them?

Smaller? They shouldn't be - the skeletons in 3.1 and 1.0 are exactly the same so as long as your model fits the skeleton it should be the same size.

Have you got an erroneous $scale command in the qc somewhere?

The skeleton is the same size but the model itself is smaller.

Aha! Therein lies your problem. You'll need to scale it up. You can select all and use the scale button and set the scale values for x,y,z to say 1.05 each and hit the scale button. That will scale up the model 5% of the previous scale each time so do that until the bones fit neatly inside the body, arms and legs.

Ideally you want them to run nicely through the middle.

BTW, have you tried contacting Effexx the original creator to see if he can port them over?

Can I email you these models and see if you can see anything wrong w/ them? I've tried to contact Effexx but havent heard from him in 2 weeks.

I'm still here.. I'm just not currently motivated to making more models.. 1.0 and Steam took the wind out of my creative sails... I saw your "Skin me" thread... I could give that a shot... :)
