Yes, this map could be dod_avalanche_revisited :D
Can't wait to see the gameplay, and the overview.
Good job izuno!

Those are some nice destroyed buildings. Looks like a cool map!

Hmm, avalanche didn't come to mind at all for me. I really like the close quarters look to it though. Most people build DoD maps like the cities had some planning going into them (square with wide streets etc) but most European cities I've been to are tight with winding streets and not really well laid out. Looks sweet. =)

sweet looking map, does remind me of ava abit, but so long as it isn't axis biased it will be great ;)

Sorry mate, but I really donīt like the avalanche textures. they have been used in too many maps.

Good mapping, but imo you should rather use some of the new textures released here in the last few months.

I really like the looks of it.

I hope this will replace Avalance, cause that maps it getting more and more claustrophobic every day.

Good work.

Looks good with these textures. Is this map going to replace avalanche (finally)?

Ahh finally post gets through. Sorry Izuno, I had a very detailed explanation of what I thought you could work on but something is up with the dod forums right now. I'll just summarize, hopefully the servers will be better so later I can explain more why these could be worked on.

Since I got the priviledge of visiting Rome, Florence and around Tuscany this summer, I can tell you roofs in middle of pic one and left building in pic 4 do not exist in Italy. 90% of the roofs should be like attached pic. Notice, they are thin, kinda flat or not to angled downward, and stick out a lot. Plus you could use the same color of roof texture for all the roofs because the buildings in towns are all the same. (plus it saves texdata;))

Next, the textures really could use a redo. It does look too avalanchy. I took a bunch of pictures in Italy of buildings this summer so maybe you or someone could take my reference pictures and make textures of some of them for this map. Just PM me if you're interested, I'd gladly send them to you since I can't texture.

Lastly, the kinda pine tree model in DOD doesn't really fit with an Italian map. I don't know the name of the type of tree, but if you do a search in google for Tuscany, you will see plenty of the type of vegetation in Italy. Maybe someone could model some trees for you.

Oh and this does look great, I just thought that I should let you know of some things that would make this even greater and authentic.;) I feel kinda bad since everyone is just saying "looks great" and I am writing all this. But I guess I now know what it feels like now for all the European guys who look at some of the maps made, and say "this looks nothing like Insert European town here " :D Anyways good job!

Regarding the inauthentic look of the roofs and the tree....

:-/

what can i say is that i have limited resources here atm. this map isn't necc supposed to be a sequel or replacement for avalanche. i chose that texture set because it happened to fit the needs for what i was trying to accomplish. the map is named dod_switch as in "switchback"....relating to the zig-zagged roads/paths going up steep hills.

yes it does look like avalanche, which people associate with italy. However, this was a very complex map with the hills and 45 degree angles everywhere, so unfortunately that's about all I could do with the roofs in this case. :(

but thank you everyone for the feedback.

hmm nice looking map. i like the way the streets resemble real italian streets, which are small narrow and curved.

one question though. what the hell are pine trees doing in south itally:confused:

looking good... how about submiting it for 1.2?;)

I like vicenza's textues, though I don't know where you want to go with the map as far as atmosphere and looks.

I think a name like dod_gustav(Gustav Line during World War II) would make a better name though... but who cares. Good luck!

So, is there any chance of seeing this getting released, maybe just as a beta or whatever?

You could take the pulse of the players that way. By that I mean that you could see how well people respond to the map and in case of moderate excitement or even if it doesn't take well at all you can always fix it up or decide whether you want to take on any other projects.

So what do you say?

I'm aware that this might sound pushy, but lately there's been little to no activity release-wise int he community and a new map of good quality is never a bad thing. To me it looks like a map that I'd choose over avalanche and many other maps for sure, so I just hope that it'll seee that daylight soon.
----------------------------------------------------------

Edit: I just realized that my question was redundant, and that I wrote it in a toot tired state.

This map looks really good! It looks like the gameplay would be similar to Avalanche, but better because it's bigger!

You broked Avalanche :(

Looks really good keep it up. Hopefully the narrow streets will force squadwork moving from building to building. Reminds me of some custom map back in 3.1 it was in narrow streets with connecting buildings in it.

looks really good, i donīt know how you built this terrain ;)

only reason people are saying Ava is b.c of the textures. unlike Rotkopf's statement, I haven't seen these textures used in many other places so that's probably why everyone is saying Ava.

I like the idea of the zig-zag roads going up hills. makes for a nice uphill/downhill battle. sounds promising and I would love to check it out.

Is anyone else getting reminded of cs_italy with those two splitting roads?
*shudders*

I could care less, this looks 10x more atmospheric than cs_sh-italy and I'm not shuddering. Keep us updated izuno!

everyone, please keep in mind this is nearing completion. It's well into alpha, almost beta...

...and my texture monkeys are proceeding with analysis...
