Was browsing the Dodnetwork boards, and came across a great single-pixel red dot crosshair replacement that Martin has done.

Be warned though, it is very small. Better than the default one by a mile though. :D

I can't remember where I got it, but I have a great red-dot crosshair that is clearly visible but not obstrusive at 1280x960.
