Animating Questions..

09-03-2003, 02:15 AM
I've searched the massive amounts of tutorials on this forum as well as others and can't quite seem to find the answers I'm looking for so I'll ask them here, maybe a mod can sticky this up.

1) First thing's first: to my knowledge there is not one single tutorial that fully explains the .smd animation sequences thoroughly enough (especially the ones in DoD.) Please include any links I may have missed that were not posted in this forum's "MSA Tutorials, FAQs, and References" thread and any not included at MilkShape's website in reguards to editing/exporting .smd to the model file for playability.

Q: Is it possible to import a .smd from a model, edit the animation, export as the same .smd filename replacing the old, then compile and use? (From my countless trial and error's aparently it is not, I get a "7000 is not a sequence, 1.smd does not exsist" error after compiling in MilkShape.)

2) Looking at the picture located here (http://www.geocities.com/thesoulgiver/dod.html), I am attempting to place the default mg gunner (left) into a more realistic prone stance (right). Using the original "bipod_mg_aim_blend1.smd" from the model, I've managed to position the legs to my liking, however I noticed that I ran into problems with keyframes involving the breathing animation, so I just deleted all key frames which inlcuded the breathing. Now the model has the right leg/torso posture but lacks the breathing.

Q: How may I add that posture without loosing the breathing animation? Or better yet, how can I animate a similar if not toned down version of the default breathing animation?

3) If possible sum up how the .smd really works and the overall process in putting my own .smd into DoD, how would I go about in doing that? I have a feeling it has to do with editing variables in the .qc file.

I thank you in advance for your help, you won't regret it...trust me. ;)
