DoD_Eville Pics by Sector Effector

Hi today iīm posting this news for Sector-Effector (Mapper of DoD_Heutau). I will show you some pics of his new map DoD_Eville.

First his comment:


"Hi there, here you see a few screenshots of my current project DoD_E-Ville which I have been working on for over 9 Months now. That however means nothing since during these 9 Months i also spent a 6 Month Tour in Kosovo where the motivation or time to map wasnīt always present. I am planning to finish the map ASAP and get it into testing stages.
Enough of the blabber, check out the screenshots which of course dont resemble zee final product since a lot of texture and brush work needs to be done. Thanks to Guranga for posting these for me since i still cannot post here for some reason.

Very nice!

The textures look kinda blurry but I suppose that is due to the gfx card settings (no AF, eh?).

Is this map targetted to be included in 1.1?
Can't await that.

Looks... empty.

There are pretty nice brushwork too, but It really lacks a "feeling". Streets are empty etc. I can't describe it better.

But hey if it's just a layout done or something. Anyway...

Otherwise. Pretty good. Work on it.

that building with the pink-red wall and the windows seems kinda strange, those textures are imo a little bit to cartoonish. I think absolut_vodka is doing some window textures, you might wanna check these out :D and like skdr said, it does look empty but I guess you'll finish lay out etc first. some minor texture alignment etc needs to be fixed(edge of the roofs for example).

but gj anyway, your doing pretty nice

i like the looks, maby darken the textures a little, and make the map a little darker.

A tad too bright, perhaps make it a bit less bright on the eyes.

That roof texture dont look to funky either. It just doesnt work well at all.

To put it nicely without offending anybody, this map looks like it got lost somewhere in beta times and never escaped. It's got some decent brushwork, but overall it looks very empty, dated and lacking any kind of atmosphere.

A good step would be simply adding more detail to the streets, and also making the rubble less ugly. Rubble isn't flat with sharp edges, nor does it get too steep without collapsing. :(

the buildings looks good (except a few textures..)

LoL , notice this is an early status of the map, or did you see models in the Map?! Itīs just the brushwork, Sector will fill the streets, be sure!

This is probably the sector-effector fanboy inside talking but i think the structures and layout look awesome so far.

Throw some sandbags, barbwire, hedgehogs etc around the place and the sexiness will increase exponentially.

Sorry, I'm just being more honest now. I feel it's better if Sector knows exactly what is wrong with it so that he can work on fixing the matters directly. If I just told him it was brilliant without providing any decent feedback on how to improve it where would that get him? :D

By the way, I want to see a massive movable box in DOD2!

i got the map and the layout and brushwork is briliant :)

yes theres some issues with lighting and the streets still being empty but knowing sextar he will work this out :>

That makes me feel a lot better IR. Honestly I didn't think Eville looked too impressive but I didn't want to say anything until I've played it because gameplay>brushwork/lighting IMO and I'm even a mapper:D. Besides even if it was the worst looking map in the world but played brilliantly, there could always be an update in later versions.;)

Anyways I am sure Eville will be balanced and have a sort of "SectorEffector" feel to it like Heutea. Heutea had some of the most fun choke points in DOD.

I don't know what the others think but this seems like a great serious map. GJ and I just hope it will be a flag map and not another objective based map.....keep the the good work and release it ASAP:D

Ahh, finally i can post, thanks Admins!

Ok, first of all I want to thank everyone for the interest in my map and Thrik for his honest comment. The map does indeed look empty and thats due to it no even being close to Beta Status. I started work on it 9 Months ago but effectively worked 2-3 months on it since i spent November - May in Kosovo on KFOR Duty where i didnt always have the time or motivation to map.

I cant tell an ETA but im making good progress as we speak, maybe thereīs a BETA out soon, i dont know.
To calm down everyone who is interested in a 2nd Version of DoD_Heutau, this map will resemble itīs style and gameplay to a certain extend, still laying major emphasis on teamplay and linear but versatile layout ( omg that sounds snobby ). Yes, it will be a 5 Flag Cap Map. I will post more screenshots as I proceed and supply you guys with a layout map.
If there are any texturers out there along with Absolut Vodka who want to help me out with custom textures, feel free to mail me: Sector-Effector@Freenet.de

Sector is in the army now so he can only work on it during the weekend but its closing down to a beta, and he's really working his ass off on this baby. Most of the brushwork and textures are done...just the spawns really. I would show a screen but its in hammer so I guess you'll have to wait til the beta. Btw the map has recieved a make up and looks alot different compared to those old screens.

Well not on the screens here, but on the newer eville yeah I provided the textures. Its my first time making textures for a specific map, so I'm a bit skeptic on how it'll look in-game but hopefully it'll look alright but Im not klein or mike.

Also, what's the news on the reworking of Heutau. This map was loved by thousands! It was my favourite map. The greatest gameplay imo.

yeah hl mapping seems pretty much at a stand still...damn hl2 arg.. but no no...this map is not dead... im actually not sure we're its at cuz I havent spoken to sector in a couple of weeks having been away in london an all...so lets talk about that now...

no but serisouly, he's been working on it and likewise me on textures and im sure a beta will be out "soon"...

and as for a progress report:
- the spawns should be done now. Those were the last big pieces of the to-do brushwork

- most textures are done. I only got a few things that I know of to do..

- yes Im also eagerly awaiting to play test this map...seems like its gonna be quite an interesting map. Its fairly linear and almost all buildings are accessible. The old screens here are of the city part of the map... there is also a village side with some very nice brushwork I have to say...so as dod should have taught u by now- patience is ur best friend.
