okay guys as most of you are probably unaware im remapping heutau, im in the early stages now and should expect a release in about a month. heres some screenies for your viewing pleasure just keep in mind i know there are a few issues and the textures arent final, also the lighting isnt bright enough :)
im having trouble with my gfx card so it dont look to pleasing.

Please tell me you atleast made/tried to get in contact with the original author. Even if dod_heutau is valve property(thus can be modified ala cs_assault) I'd still contact the author to see if use of the name heutau2 is acceptable...just name the map dod_heutau_remix or something. Otherwise some people will be pissed...

The building in the center of pic 23 looks like crap.....I don't know if I've ever seen a building from WW2 that looked like that....( could just be me )

I contacted the author of heutau a few months ago to ask him if he could convert heutau to 1.0, or if I oculd make a remake of it. And turns out:

1) He is out of the army and is active
2) He doesnt want ppl remaking it because hes working on a map with a similar playing style

hmpf, i would like to say you that:

Heutau (the orginal) will be back for 1.0 soon. Itīs worth a try to recreate it but i know that all people will only play the orginal then!!!

I'm checking w/Sector...he told me the other day that someone was working on H2...I'm just not sure who that someone was. He also showed me a new map he's been working on and it has great potential...so it looks like Sectors back for a while.

Regardless...there's nothing written in concrete about decompiling a map and making your own remake...it might not be an altogether original or bright idea (you guys will flame him to death...lol) but decompiling is an acceptable form of knowledge gathering...perhaps actually publishing a remade dod map is in bad taste...but it's not anything to get flamed up about.

Speaking of rmf's...I'll check w/Tim but I want to release both my glider and flugplatz rmf's to you guys here after 1.1 drops...not only is there a ton of entity work in both to check out but I'll bet some of you can come up with better solutions to some of the problems I encountered...I tend to work entities like big slabs of concrete...I pile on entity after entity to get the desired result when I'm sure a more elegant solution could be had.

Your graphics card has nothing to do with it not looking "pleasing"

1) Blue diffusion = the sucks
2) Building dont look right
3) 3.1 Heutau > This.

The official Heutau is being updated to DoD 1.X standards (Sector has a friend doing the bulk of the work). The Heutau2 described here is not that map.

Sector is also working on a new map (I ran around in a early version of it yesterday) and I think it's going to be really good.

Since Waldo has said he's interested in returning some of the "Classic" maps to the official list of maps I'm sure Sector will re-submit the updated Heutau as a candidate.

All right enough of my begging, sounds great that Waldo wants to return some of the older maps back to official maplist. Hmmm and I can't wait to see some pics of Sectors new map.

Well...we've talked about releasing map-packs for ages...I really do hope that occurs either with 1.2 or between 1.2 and DoD2 but as usual there is no promise that it will...just a promise that some folks on the team are considering it.

My guess is you'll see the new Heutau as a custom map first. I always recommend releasing maps as custom maps even if you know you have a good shot at being "official"...it guarentee's two things...you get all the bugs worked out and you find out if it's any good...people vote by playing/not playing your map. Some might think that ruins any suprise but I'd rather have a solid map that's been tested than a "It could be good" map that has not been tested.

You can bet that whatever I work on next I'll release it first as a custom. I think I'll have my next one in a few months...been putzing around w/another industrial park map...kinda a remake of my old factory map except this time not as confusing.

Actually...they confuse me too...sometimes I work out situations by stringing a bunch of entities along to get the desired result although there's probably an easier way to do it. For instance...I just learned how to use the master setting on entities in the last few weeks and used the "changetarget" entity for the first time a few days ago...I think you'd be shocked at what I don't know about hammer and the fgd. I read some of the posts here and some of you guys seem to really understand the specifics about mapping...the technical side of it...I think I have a grasp on the basics...but some things still elude me:

1) Why Coca Cola thought "New Coke" was a good idea
2) Hanging Chad
3) Dan Quayle
4) Why I still like playing "Frogger"
