K, this skin is complete ****, just so you know. My first weapon skinning job, and prolly my last. I made it just so I could test out the model in-game.

Wood Texture - Dillinger
Metal Texture - Russ. Conscript
Model - Vctrmaster
Anims - DoD Team

Crappy cut-paste metal textures that don't look right
Mediocre wood that actually came out better than expected
Very, very nice bullet and casing textures
Off-model anims
Re-origin (toight)

Pics and d/l link can be found at:

Are you calling my wood mediocre?!?! :D

I've seen worse! It's actually not all that bad for a first timer.

It really was, the sights were over-extended and I couldn't get them lighted right.

And Dillinger, your wood is actually the best part of the model, my crappy cut-paste technique and an over-extended mesh made it look like ****.

Yeah its not so bad. You're too negative! lol I'm trying it out ingame now :)

EDIT I just checked it in HLMV, I'm going to try out my new shoes in NBA Live 2003 before I try the kar ingame. Some parts of the wood don't match the other parts and I think that with a little more effort on your part you could actually make a better skin. Its just a matter of patience :)

yeah its jsut a bad mesh look at this pic i made look how it is crooked :(

I'm fixing up the lighting diff's in the wood, and cleaned up the the metal around the bolt A LOT!, so It actally looks okay now except for 2 things.

Sights: Screwed up mesh makes screwed up skin.
Chamber: No texture for chamber, just the wood. Grah!

This mesh is difficult to work with...

K, made the wood look better, made the metal in the receiver/bolt look more uniform and better lighting, but still can't fix that blasted sight.

Wow, that is so much better. I knew you could do it :) I just got back from a game using the kar and something about it just made me feel good about using the "*****" weapon. I don't usually use the k98 but the model just makes me wanna use it. Cathode, could you update your site with that skin? Good job :)

Already updated.

It's a really great model, all the other 98k's are either too wide or not shaped right. This one is perfect.

one tiny bug i noticed:

When u pull the charging handle ( or bolt thingy watever....)
there is supposed to be a ball attached to the end of the handle,
but during the animation, the ball remain stuck on the right side of the rifle.......

i guess someone assign the wrong bones to it....

i don't think anyone has animated this model. I think everyone is using the default anims. from the original gun.

08-25-2003, 05:13 AM
i remeber having seen some great skins for this, some of them are from brutalization and dillinger... but haven't heard from that for awhile now :(

anyway, glad you released this, and it looks much better then you think ;)

No, it uses the anims from I think Ls3's model.

And whoever applied them to this model didn't set the bones right, because the bolt comes OUT of the chamber and the ball at the end of the bolt handle is not attached.

I'll reconvert it when vcrtmaster finishes remeshing it. Vcrt u need to name each part that moves (make it a separate object), otherwise its a ***** to assign it to the vertices :)

I loved it sizewise, but as many other have pointed out it's majorly buggy and needs a bit more work to measure up to standards where one choose this over the default....no offence.

Hope this gets fixed soon, cause a new kar wouldn't hurt.
