Maps you plan for 2.0

well, what are your plans for the revolutionary engine jump. I want to do my Holland/Germany bridge map, because everything I want to do with it now, like a bombers on a way to a raid with the interceptors and fighters duking it out, is just not possible now. I also want to try something where people either land gliders or parachute into random locations on the map, I haven't really decided on that(maybe Eben Emael{I'll improvise} or Crete). I don't have many other plans, I'm afraid. What about everyone elses' plans for Source?

Very interesting topic indeed!

I've always wanted to venture into the world of Hammer and creating maps but with HL2 crawling upon us I thought what the heck I'll start then so I won't have to learn again(though I hear the Source is similar to the current half-life engine) and maybe I'll have more time to get acustomed to the program and being creative.

If I ever get around to it...

-Pointe du Hoc map with possibilities of rope launchers and whatnot
-Tinker with parachutes and gliders like Ben said
-Maybe not for dod2 but create a scenario where RAF Lancaster bombers try to take out dams in the Ruehr River Valley under heavy anti-aircraft fire
-the seige of Manila
-Monte Cassino...most of the battles

I want to make a gazala map or El Alamein, that should open the doors for desert maps, also battle of the bulge some wide open fields cover in snow.

a series of maps that start off on a beach map then work their way inland, dyke fighting (not the lebos :P ), convoy protection/destroy maps, hedgegrow type ones etc. God I can't wait :D

I should also note that IMO Half-Life 2 will probably seperate the mappers from the elite mappers. IE detail will be more of an issue as well and hopefully mappers will be able to concentrate more on gameplay and detail and not so much as staying within rigorous technical constraints(current engine). Just my opinion from a non-mapper.:)

Ideas are nice, but they mean nothing.

LOL funny story about that. I was reading BoB at the part where they attack in holland (Ep.5 of the series) with the dikes. I asked my brother what a dike was (I forgot i wasn't up to terms on geographic landforms) and he pauses for a second and was like "uhhh you sure you wanna know" I cut him off and was like the landform not the lesbian term and he was like oooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh its like a hill thing but long. lol had a good laugh

I will decide what I will map when I will know the engine.

I find that brainstorming is as important as actually making the map. Just come up with ideas, narrow it down to the good ones, eliminate the impossible ones, then modify your ideas to what you have to work with.

The release of HL2 is one thing...The release of DoD2 is another; you guys do realize this...

Lol, Dike (Dijk in Dutch) is a very normal word in Holland, and you didn't even knew it. Hhahaha, the wordl is so big :P

But serious now: A bastogne map, and a map at d-day (paratroopers)

That would be cool

I think I'll call it quits after DOD_BURN, my social life is too demanding! Mapping is no longer fun; parties + flirting are my favourite thing. I just want to finish what I've started mapping, it'd be pointless for it all to go to waste.

I expect all the early maps for HL2 will suck, as most "first wave" stuff does. Give it a year or so to soak in, I think (for custom maps).

I sound like my stepdad talking about wine.

You'd rather get ass than map? How dare you!

to bring to this forum back to maps i like that inland fighting d day that would be a good spawn advance map, start on the beach like in dod dog1, i mean a beach like that my opinion is that was the best beach much. Then after allies succesfuly take the beach there be hedgerow field ahead followed by a town. Allies will spawn right before the hedgerow field, those who came from the beach and from the hedgerows from paratroopers. Axis can spawn in the town.
