Hi, well looks like another Brit. Replacement...

Ok, well, after watching Raid on Rommel I was inspired to make these...

They are just an edit of my SAS ones...But attractive at that...

Are those the same heads as the other Commandos you released(or someone released, I'm using them as my Brits now). Looks good, but might I suggest releasing an updated version with rolled up sleeves and shorts? Also, were the Commandos using the Beret at the time, or those schwanky hats?

Someone should reskin the jeeps to be pink to go along with this:D

Very nice. :D By the way, are these the models you had questions about compiling?

@2ltben ; That is a possibilty, they did often roll up there sleeves in the swealtering heat, but from what I could see, only the medical personal wore shorts. And yes they wore Black Berets...Some wore the Unit ensignia pin, others didn't...

Plus, the SAS ones I released before where some fictionla unit I made up, SAS operations during WW2 are very hard to come by, but after watching the movie, they looked very similiar...

@Rabib ; No that is another project I am working on...;)

Yeah SAS wore berets as far as I know, they also used to wear the old pin of their previous unit that they fought in before they made it through selection.

I think you should leave the sleeves down as alot of the commando/SAS raids took place at night and in the desert the night is ****ing freezing.

Nice work mate, gotta love the headphones :D

SAS Beret's were originally white but where changed to the sand/beige colour after members got fed up of being teased by other units over it.

Yes, some SAS members wore beret's on op's duing WWII (they weren't so über-secretive back then) but I believe most wore nothing on desert ops or a comfort cap at night.

On operations in France just before D-Day the SAS wore their beret's inside out so that they wouldnt be so recognisable as SAS to the Germans who had been ordered by Hitler to take no SAS man prisoner but to kill them immediately. On a side note, the SAS found they could drive their jeeps, complete with union flag, pretty unhindered around the French forests and most German soldiers refused to believe a British force could be operating that far behind enemy lines and assumed it was a German unit in disguise.

The pink colour of vehicles used by the SAS came about after the war. During WW2 they were painted a sand brown colour but there are various stories about how the post war pink colour came along.

One story tells of a patrol coming across the wreck of a wooden framed Mosquito aircraft. The effects of the wind and sand had stripped away the fabric and exposed the adhesive which, in the sun and faded to a pink colour. They noticed how well the colour had hidden the wreck from them until they approached quite close to it. Based on this observation they went off and experimented.

Other stories from post WWII say that at the time of the Aden conflict, where my father was operational, a few vehicles arrived unpainted and had to be done locally. The "official" story of their pink colour was that they took can's on normal sand coloured paint and just poured small amounts of red-primer into it to give it a pinkish tinge.

The more amusing story is that one jeep was painted the standard sand colour and was stood drying when a sand story kicked up covering the fresh sticky paint with a fine coating of the local sand which had a reddish tinge to it. They noticed that the truck now had a perfect match to the local terrain colour and the sand coating removed any reflections from the surface of the vehicle.

On a technical note - pink is an idea camoflauge colour in desert environments as it has a tendancy to blur incredibly well with its surrounding at distance due to some phenomenom with the way we see colour.

Apparenly "pink" would of been the most ideal colour for the F-117 Stealth bomber but they went for black as they figured no pilot would fly a pink plane.

The Commando order was given during or after the infamous Norwegian commando raids of the early days of the war, and ordered all sorts of Commandos to be shot, however, Erwin Rommel, feeling rather ballsy, disobeyed the order and took Commandos like any other prisoners. This is one of the reasons why David Stirling, creator of the SAS, survived the war, he was captured and sent to Colditz, but he never escaped.

I loved their France raids, too. The locals would recognize them as they'd drive right through the center of towns, flying the Union Jack high :D

Also, is there any chance we can get a Paddy Maine lookalike?
