Hi mates,
short message about my current project dod_tobruk [inspired/supported by my fellow Baldrun], a "brits vs. german Afrikakorps" scenario.

Thats what awesome map u got there, can u show us a pic of r speed, and overview map.
Also did u use any custom desert textures any new ones. Can you also tell us bout any objectives in the map any unque features your going implement or have.

We have both Ambush_combat and Feldfeuer on our server, I'm sure when this is done, it will find a home w/ us as well.
Looks great so far.
Let me know if you need a server to playtest on.

Hi all,
thx 4 (nice) comments so far.
r_speeds are at the moment about 600-900 w_polys and 8000 e_polys on the main battlefield-area; still trying to reduce when integrating final models and approaching beta-status; pics will follow then.
Map will be divided in three parts/objectives:
- a main allied defense-line
- an allied depot
- a small village
- axies have time-limit
Tanks will shoot with machine-gun-fire and grenades, when destroyed they stop shooting.
Furthemore there are moving spawns.
More infos will follow....

sorry mate. but i cant play this map if you have either brits or americans fighting. the dev team is going to have to add an australian allied team, just for this map. when the brits finally relieved us and took over defense of tobruk, the germans captured the town really quickly. :p
looks great, cant wait. sky is beaut.

Yea but aussi was still considered part of british commonwealth so no need for aussi team yet m8.
Yeah, same with the Canadians. They faught at caen.

No need for Canadian or Australian forces because their equipment was almost identical to the British one. Except some minor Australian weapons like that smg.

Ha, at least they went back and took it again. Nothing like a lose to toughen you up.

Hopefully this map will help adding the African scenario to DoD. Just support us as best as possible and this map may even convince the DoD team to consider Africa part of this great mod.

You bet I think this will be one of the best custom maps with firring tanks and the Africa campaign .
one question will the Axis tanks be firring into the brit compound until Bazooka-ed ?

Axis Tanks will attack britīs defense/trench area and secondary (MG-fire) used as spawn-protection.
Firing Brit Tanks (primary: tankgrenades, secondary: MG-fire) are Axis Objectives - must be "Panzerfaust-ed" :)

Why ruin this awsome looking map with british? Reconcider putting the allies against the axis, I don't care about history, I care about awsome gameplay =( Either way though, this map looks VERY promising and I look forward to it's release.

Looks V good!
Just remove the MP44, K43, MG-34 (but not MG-42) classes from play. That way it should be more evenly balanced when playing, plus, I don't think those weapons were used in Africa.
Keep the Brits in! They work on open maps- its the small maps like Flash which suck.
I hope in 2.0 we can have commonwealth skins (not as custom skins either).
If your talking about weapons in the Africa campaign the Britt's had Tommy guns I my self would rather have a tommy then a sten gun .

You might as well ask dod team to make an Afrika Korps class. lol. I don't expect you to limit any classes but just to state my opinion don't limit any allow people to be what they want. Im sure you will oh and next pic u release can we see an overview if u have one yet id like to see the layout of the map.

Last time I talked to Bleibringer he had switched to BF42: Desert Combat mapping and he told me as well that heīs not very motivated in finishing this map.
I have some concerns that this project is going to be released, unfortunately.

I've learned pretty much about open maps, from coldline mostly ...

as bleibringer started this thread, he asked me for some waypoints for testing this map! two weeks ago, i asked bleibringer to the status of this map... he sayed that he will wait for dod 1.1, but sayed nothing about to stop this project! so i think he working on it!

Hi all !
Sorry 4 the delay !
A few words about whatīs going on with me and dod_tobruk; itīs true Iīve started mapping for BF1942 and Mods...BUT...
I am still working on tobruk [thereīs so much time in it], I waited for DoD1.1 because of the "zalec-bug" [not resetting of the gate; walking through closed gate].
Furthermore I donīt have the "right" african models yet.
I intend to release a beta soon without those african models, just to get gameplay impressions, as soon as I get the right models I will implement them, maybe after the beta the model-creators will be motivated to finish their models.

Will this map be compatible with DoD ver 1.0, Bleibringer ? I noticed that you waited for the release of the update.

Some news about the progress of 'Tobruk':
In the last weeks I worked quite a lot on finishing dod_tobruk; in the meantime I compiled 6 "different" versions of the map.
After several changes [some problems with 'max_patches' :mad: and 'max_clipnodes' :( ; gameplay issues :rolleyes: ] a first beta-map will be finished/released soon.

A lot of epolies here (8500). But map looks great.
My notes:
Skybox mountains are way too high. And they should be just on one side eventually.
