[SREL] Firm Puff Impact

Hey guys I got bored and decided to make my own puff shot sprite. I re-released Free Kitten's puff shot sprite last June and people thought that it was too big. I decided to make a brand new one from scratch, it is quite similar to Free Kitten's but mine is a wee bit smaller, less thicker. Puff is more realistic than blood IMO :)

( Don't judge by the pictures, try it out yourself )

yeah im glad there are people who realize that blood isnt the only thing that sprays out of a body when shot, they forget to think about the cotten fibers, dust & dirt. im definately using this, great job on it :)

On films/series such as BoB and SPR you see very little blood and more of a huge cloud of dust. i always thought this was just because of the sqwibs (SP?) or summat, but were they actually going for that effect? it just seems a bit cheesy, as if they combusted or summat.

Most of the stills/footage i've seen of people being shot show very little anything coming from the wound. In fact, on many of the stills its hard to even tell they've been hit (WW1 photo for example). It kinda just looks like they've stumbled or summat.

Does smoke like this really come out of the wound? If so, why?

Anyway, tried it in game and it's bloody great (no pun intended :D). Me and four mates ran into an MG42 position on flash and it blew the **** outta us. I was at the back so i got to see the full effect of the sprites on the lads lol Couldn't see **** all cos of the amount of blood/smoke lol I wish i had taken a pic.

well im pretty sure that this was a realistic effect, in real-time footage movies i wouldent be surprised if the camera dident capture the dust/cotton cloud because the whole movie is clowded lol.

take a look a this picture, this is a WW1 still of a french soldier being shot and in front of him is what looks like some kind of spray.

as for the cotton and dust and crap refer to my attachment, there is several layers of clothing and the bullet, if it leaves an exit wound is ejecting all of the cotton it tears up out the back. the blood would not have enough room to "spray" out like you would typically think. it would probobly just ooze out and soak the clothing. the only time i think blood would really spray is if it hit an important vein, or some main artery like the jugular, in the neck.

you can also refer to "black hawk down" when the corporal was shot in the leg, but he had so much on, that the blood only really went everywhere until the medic was able to rip his pants open.

God bless Paint lol

Cheers for the info russ, and there was me thinking gun shots caused tarantino style damage and blood loss lol

just like sometimes when you punch a couch a lot of dust flies up but you cant see it untill you hit it. kind of the same effect. I imagine most soldiers have gotten very dirty. the dust and dirt only settled onto the clothes so when hit hard enough, it flies off. makes sense no?

Thanks guys. Hmm I think I should start a career in sprites and forget about skinning, I'm kinda sick of skinning coz I see like a skin release from diff. types of people everyday. Mystic Cobra is the sprite in your screenie mine? I didn't know it looked that good, I haven't had the chance to really try it out :)

BTW guys would any of you happen to know what the grenade explosion sprite is called? There are just too many explosion sprites in the sprites folder, I can't tell. Also I can't find the grass hit sprite :)

Now that would make my life easier. Thank you. I'm planning on releasing a pack with a new explosion sprite, grass sprite with soil and a better version of these puffs :)

My uncle told me (lead man in his SWAT team) that the reason you see a sort of mist from a bullet wound is because of some kinda pressure difference created by the bullet hitting flesh, and makes all the moister in your clothes, in the air, and on the wound jump out. weird aye?

lol thanks, you guys don't know how much your comments mean to me. I decided not to release it as a pack because some people might only want something in the pack, not the entire thing. It'll just be a multi-release, 1 us-para, 1 axis-inf, 1 explosion sprite, 1 grass sprite, 1 improved puff shot sprite. We don't have classes this friday and next monday so its a 4 day weekend (yipee!) and I'll have time to work on it. Expect it next Tuesday or Wednesday :)
