Pretty simple.

No more [MreL or MWip] or whatever since now we have specific forums for Releases, Works in progress and Requests so now all you have to do for thread title is.

Just add...

[Model] for a model

[Sprite] for a sprite

[Anim] for an animation

[Skin] for a skin

Please let me know if I am missing a category.

Also ... dont spam this or the other forums because I think we can all keep this pretty clean and organized. Any threads that stray from this format will recieve warning in a kindly fashion and then be locked with further ones being deleted. I dont think that this is a big thing to ask everyone since I know everyone wanted it last forum and the mods got together and did this for you.

Thanks

Mesh being like the guidelines for a skin. You know like you have a model and you have a skin that has areas for textures to be applied to? I can't really explain it.

I don't really like using the unofficial internet terms for modeling, I'd prefer the proper vernacular. More specifically, 'Texture' for 'Skin', and 'UVMap' for 'Mesh,' since skin and mesh have different definitions in the real world. Otherwise it seems like a good system to me.

Actually I took 2d/3d animation on course and UVmap pertains to a texture.

...The UVW coordinate system is similar to the XYZ coordinate system. The U and V axes of a bitmap correspond to the X and Y axes. The W-axis, which corresponds to the Z-axis, is generally only used for procedural maps...

So the W axis is rather useless since game maps are applied in only 2 of the 3 known axis. Mesh and model pretty much refer to the same thing (an object made up of one or more faces where a face is generated by 3 verticies in 3D space). Skin is a term created by the gaming industry and refers more or less to the texture applied to a model.

Now your just being pedantic ;)

In whatever form I still think we should refer to them as UV maps as thats how they are usually labelled inside the modelling software itself.

UVW mapping's original purpose was to allow the ability to skin for for art scenes or movies. It's the correct term for, "Mesh."

Skin or texture is the term used to talk about well... The texture on the model

No, it's called UVW map everywhere, except crappy MS3D.

I guess it doesn't matter what you want to call it because it seems no one is bothering to read this thread for the proper thread prefix... Everyone is just using [WIP] anyway... <shrug>

I guess some of my stuff just doesn't belong here then? huds, bots , this is Models, Skins, and Animations after all. No other categories fit.

Oh well there is always the Steam forums I suppose.

Dude, chill... Jeez look at the date of this thread. It's been here since the old Goldsrc days when we didn't really update huds.

This forums fine for just about any custom content although maps (and released map models) should go in mapping.
