Idea: Flapping Shutter

Hey, I was working on a layout for my map and had a grand idea, flapping shutters on some of the windows. The map is supose to be set in the middle of a storm so there should be wind. I was wondering if this would be possible with a func rotate? Another thing I was thinking was I could have two, if they go all the way around, and have them go in oposite directions to give the illusion that its flapping, but whats really happening is as one hits the wall and goes in the other is coming out. If you get what I mean, well any feed back on this would be great, I think I'm gonna give it a shot myself.
Picture of map added on next page of posts!

func_pendulum
you could see these in the old ramelle map.
great idea!!
but what about sound?? Is it possible to sync a wav such way that everytime the shutter hits the window, it makes a banging noise??

A lot of these swinging brushes will not be good for your computer. I also belive that func_pendulems require a server-side calulation so it may lag the server. I'd suggest finding a modeler to make some shudder models like you want. Then adding animations to the shudders to make them sway.
There were some swinging brush shudders in dod_ramelle like insta mentioned.

Well this is on topic but not so bear with me ;)
Seeing its possible to make flapping shutters, wouldn't it also be possible to make power lines, clothes hanging on the line and so forth move, flutter, what ever they do?
This could be done through getting one of the modlers in the MSA forum or from M3 to do the model of it, then get it skinned and animated.
But would these things hog up the fps? if used in little amounts I'd imagine they wouldn't hog to much fps, but if you went over board and had a big building with all its shutters flapping and power cables swinging, that would hog the fps rather badly right?
Maps could or I should say can be made or original I'd think by adding things like this. :D

Plato is right....having too many moving brush-based objects = bad. In a very early version of campagne, I had moving shutters, a rotating brush-based waterwheel, and moving func_conveyor water. All of this made for some pretty bad lag.

If you make it out of brushes then it will lag the hell out of the server, so yeah, models will be the best option. Plus, you can create a wav file of the sound of a shutter slamming open or shut, and have it triggered in the QC file at the right time, giving you the full effect. :D
dod_storm, rain, wind, you could have sprites of papers blowing past you, or models w/e. A wind sound, you could have a really cool map like this.

Or you could make a model of the window, and set it's Idle animation to the flapping.

You have something like:
$sequence "run" "run" LX fps 22 loop ACT_RUN 1 { event 1004 0 "common/npc_step2.wav" } { event 1004 9 "common/npc_step4.wav" }
In your QC file.

Thanks for the input guys, and whoopy I was thinking about doing something like blowing models or sprites, but that may be hard so that probably won't make beta 1. And I think I'm gonna go with the model Idea. I'm gonna work on the map some tonight so maybe I'll have some pics for you guys later on.

I could try to rip some flapping shutter sounds from Band of Brothers(Carentan, right before the attack), not too sure how synced it would be.

All I need to do this is the actual sound of the shutter slamming open or shut (or both) and maybe the creak as it moves, if it's audible enough.

I can get a shutter creak from Band of Brothers.

Ripped the sound from Carentan, there's a bit on an ambient cricket chirp in the background, but it's still useable.

Nifty sound! Thanks! Sounds more like a metal gate though if you ask me :-x, oh well take anyhelp I can get. Well I thought I'd be nice and hook you guys up with a preview of the map I wanna use the flapping shutters and possibly rocking telephone wires in. Its about 25% along, but shouldn't take that much longer.. when I get in the mood I do things incredibly fast. Well shall delay no longer, on with the picture!

No, it's from Band of Brothers episode 3, where E Co. is under the hill and Winters is looking at the Cafe with the MGs. One of the shutters is flapping back and forth on it.

I know it is a shutter, but it sounds like a gate! :-) By the way, I'm looking for a bit of help with the church, I can't get one in there that I like, anyone who thinks they can throw a good church in there and would like to give it a shot, pm me and I'll send you the .rmf, that things slowed me up alot....
