i got the idea of making a bunch of modern weapon models to replace the ww2 weapons. i already started an M14 to replace the bar. i got most of the other weapons planned out:

The mg34 is more accurate an m60 than the .30cal.... Because the model for the m60 was taken from the mg34. They are the same gun pretty much.

i thought the m60 was taken from the mg42 design?

MG42 = cheaper MG34 :x

I would use this.

I like to completely re-do my DoD about once every fortnight, and a modern phase would kick ass.

But weapon packs take a LONG TIME to make (Russian pack :p )

Unless someone just converted over from CS models, which would just require some re-animations.

This isn't a bad idea at all. Think of it as World War Two without the help of the Soviets... the war dragged out to the point when these weapons were developed. Mike is correct; I'd rather play DoD than CS for several reasons, one being DoD's better gameplay. A few CS or FA conversions wouldn't be too difficult since most of those weapons mentioned are available in some form or another in those games. Perhaps some more modern player reskins would be in order... Vietnam-style OD and maybe some Tigerstripe for the Americans, Flecktarn and that brownish OD for zee Germans, and that disruptive pattern for the Brits. If nobody wants to do those reskins, I could pull some half-assed recolor of the defaults that probably wouldn't look too bad. PM me if anyone is serious about this project.

There is no rule that you have to use WWII era weaponary only. I remember this happened when someone wanted an M-60 made, people were up in arms in an instant.

Mr.T, I am not 'up in arms'. I am also no realism Nazi (to coin a forum phrase;) ) and I tolerate most ideas as long as they seem reasonable. I just don't see the point in a modern day weapons pack. There are many other mods that would serve his purpose better, and why convert a mod that specifically ment to take place in the WW2 era?

i have to say i wouldnt use it, cuz i love the dpd ww2 atmosphere, but no bad idea for those who love modern weapons (i dont, only modern weapon i like is Steyr AUG (Sturmgewehr 77))

This is a great idea. And a great mod for it. Say some people just dont dig the whole ww2 thing, we give them modern weapons, and it would seem like a different game. Dod has perfect gameplay unlike any other mod, unique recoil system, and less cheaters than CS. So, why not turn DoD into a modern day battle. Why suggest he go play CS or TFC, if he wanted gamepaly like that, he'd be ***king playing it now, instead of here asking for help.

I for one love this idea, and once I get my current projects over with, and some more time, im going to make a modern day pack. I've already converted a nice M16 to my BAR, it was kinda fun playing with it ingame, it was kinda fun.

Way to go Devin. I'd like to see a usp for the colt. And an Ak47 for the Stg44.

i dont even care if any of these model replacements get finished. i just thought it would be a cool idea for people that want a different kind of scheme in customizing their DOD.

As for this modern day pack. I would love to see one because no one else has been sucessful in making one. I would be interested in a realistic 2 hits and you drop! instead of CS where 12 hits from a Glock 9mm gives the poor guy a bloody nose.

In many peoples opinion DoD is enough of a deathmatch game that modern weapons isn't that big a step. I suspect a lot of people would try a pack like this.

i think this is a nice idea, its likes combining CS and dod, recoil, and sheet.

I don't have a problem with other people getting whatever skins/models/textures they want - as long as they don't get h4xy ones we'll all be fin. So what is anyone's problem with other people getting modern-day weps?

Hell, if does some skins to turn the MG42 into a gattling gun I'd be all up for it.

its a good idea, alot of the weapons here could provide as perfect palceholders for some weapons. mabey even doubles of weapons for some that can be set to smei-auto and full auto.

part of the reason i think it would be cool to modernize dod is because of its unmached game-play that it has and tighly knit coding.

i personally would like to see a vietnam pack come out for dod. seeing how the mod is war based..

one thing though, lets not let this die, all of the other threads were crashed and burned because of all of the WW2 era die hard fans who would say anything to keep modern weapons out of DOD. this is MSA people, this where your custom comes from. nobody said you had to like it or use it.. thats why every gun comes with at least 3 replacements for it. but i think change is good everyonce in a while, no matter how extreme it may be. and who knows you may actually have alot of fun with it.

This, my people, has to be one of the best ideas I have ever seen on these forums. I wish I could be apart, but I have no experience in skinning or whatever, but I think a modern warfare instead of Vietnam would be better because I wanna see funky technological weapons and stuff. 'Nam had some pretty crappy weapons to be honest (/me dreams of Flamethrower in DoD) hahahahahahahaha o_O

i think im gonna give up on my m14. when i add extra bones to the model for the bipod it screws up my current animations and i dont want to make them from scratch. so if anyone wants what i did here it is.

in its current state it doesnt work with any of the guns in game.

great idea, i remember all the threads like this that crashed. id like to see it be done, it would def give me a new feeling for dod. hell, i remember back in 1.3 i took the mp5 from cs and put it as the tommy, cs anims and all, and i had a blast.

I would DEFINITELY USE THIS.

The thing is, I LOVE modern warfare and weapons and uniforms, and LOVE DoD's combat system (recoil and respawns). This would make for an extremely fierce modern-day battle that takes place in ruined cities. Like WWIII....a titanic struggle using modern weapons.

Vietnam pack would be cool also, but wouldn't fit maps.

i remember in 1.3 the threads that were flammed and bombarded by the realism freaks.

I say release although i doubt many people will download because this is a world war 2 game after all and people like the feeling of being in a world war 2 scenario, that's why i play day of de feet. Because ww2 kix arse.

You raise some really interesting ideas here.... Hell we could do pretty much whatever we want with this. Americans vs. Iraqis, Afghanis, etc....we could even make up scenarios.... France goes to war with Indonesia!
