Preview: dod_brume 100x foggier than bastogne

These screenshots were taken WITHOUT opengl fog. And most of the screenies were taken above the ground because you cant see much in front of you on the ground, making for some interesting combat. It consists of a bridge with 3 towers, 1 on each side and 1 in the middle (you can climb up each tower). On each side of the bridge there are small ledges you can go across but you are susceptible to falling through cracks in the ledge, or meeting enemies on the ledge as well. Plenty of hiding spaces and places to ambush enemies. Its a really fun map to play MG on, enemies could appear in the fog at any moment, and tracers are almost invisible in the fog.
In the second screenshot you can see on the right a ladder, that leads down to the ledge on the side. and theres another ladder on the left but you cant see it because of the fog
the fog sprites a little bright white for my eyes.. but its a good way of remaking forced fog :)

Guess rifles would be useless. :p SMG heaven.
but on the contrary cheeto, if the fog was really thick, buttsmacks and bayounets would come into effect

The first one whose turn off fog will easily kill everyone else. If fog is made from sprites = FPS < 10. Im not sure if there is any way to keep gameplay mapper had in mind.

Just to compare, my fps ranges from 1-25 fps on dod_charlie with all particle effects off. On my map, i get between 25-80 fps with particle effects off. So the map is playable.

Or someone could replace the fog sprites with a much smaller and less obtrusive sprite and be able to have an extreme advantage. Also the fog sprite makes everything super bright which is distracting and blinding even.

sprites are great, I've never seen lag with them. I've seen lag a lot with particle shooters though. It's a good idea, but quite bright :P possibly something a little toned down or greyish would be good...it's also possible that your gamma or something is just up too much.

Huh, I'm guessing that you play America's Army. And I'm guessing that you modeled it after that. Wait, it looks like you made an exact copy.....
Anyway, i dont think good fog like that could be done. That looks un-realistic to me because 1, its uber bright in those screens. 2, its the only way hl can do fog without cl_fog 1 and it will always look crapy. But the last 2 pics look good. Not bad!(except for the map copy, i realy dis-approve of that).

yah i fixed the brightness thing. in the screenies i had above the light_environment brightness was at 150, now i compiled it at 50 so its much darker. you have to also remember that this map is high in the mountains, so its much closer to the sun and therefore should be a little bright.
and yes this map was based on AA, because it was one of my favorite maps so I made a similar version, but made it a little simpler, plus I made it alot more interesting when you fall off the bridge.

Whoopy, go up about 62 miles of those millions and tell me how you feel. You'll either have literally frozen solid and crysalised, or you'll have the skin boil off of you and the rest of you get extra crispy.
I just thought it was funny m8, no need to get testy here.

the higher in altitiude you go up, the less particles of air/polution obstruct the sunlight

Its not really 1:1 I havent played that map in over a year, and I only remember the great games I had on it, Its a very simple layout that can be alot of fun.

Bud like AAo the Fog i see lots of People runing without fog in AAo and this is what make this map good.
In dod ...... no fog in this map an no chance to capure becouse mg and sniper fire make it to havy.:confused: ;)

This map is unique because it has forced fog, it doesnt matter if the player has opengl fog on or off, this map will always be foggy.

I know this thread was a ways back now, but I was wondering if anyone happens to have Sturmbot waypoints for this still.
I was offline due to blaster when Houston went down. Was able to get the map again, but not the waypoints.
I really enjoy this map, but only with the bots as no servers limit the MG's and the usual 5 per team is no good with this map. I have tried making my own waypoints and that didn't work out too well.
Someone please help me out.... I miss this map already! :p
