Hello everyone

Today is your lucky day. Yes, today, all of you are invited to download the Small Maps Pack, a collection of a bunch of fun maps designed for small amounts of people, be it lan games, smaller servers, whatever. These maps have all kinds of gameplay and objectives, capturing a hotel, just plain ol' deathmatch, all of these maps are a lot of fun, and have a lot of work put into them.

A little news about my map (dod_cliffside) I didn't have time to implement all my custom stuff, so I will release an update for you guys when I come back from my roadtrip across canada (3-4 weeks from now) which will have the objectives, custom win songs, and a few other goodies. The version there right now is a plain para style deathmatch. As soon as my new version is ready, you'll hear about it. Enjoy :) -Gorbachev

some of the maps are good, some are not. the one's i'm keeping are dod_slope, dod_vire, dod_zigliara, and DEFINETLY
dod_mythic.
my jaw just droped after seeing the tank move up along with the germans and blow holes in the allie hotel. and to make htings even better i switch to allies and go through the building on the right and all of a sudden the tank starts capping at me and i merely dodge it. i was practically crying at the beauty of having the tank fire it's mg at me, felt like i was in the last battle of SPR it was great!!:D omfg if they were to implement this with jagd and switch it to an americans vs german map, it would freaking own!!!

omfg god tanks should DEFINETLY be implemented into DoD!! but maybe only 2 tanks max!!

Yes, the tank is definately the highlight of the map. However, in most full sized maps the use of a tank would be impossble, considering it uses around 200 entities, you'd easily hit the maxiumum number quickly.

And all the maps are good, c'mon. :D . Seriously, these maps own.

i wish you were able to man tanks like in bf1942 or WW2:online. i'm not saying i want ot see this turn into bf1942, i just think that adding 1 or 2 drivable tanks on the large maps would be awesome since it'd a strategic element to it. but probably not for the HL engine. probably when HL2 comes out!!:D :D
EDIT: and dod cliffside has some issues. it's a cool map but the reason i don't like it is because there's no freaking way to blow up any of the planes, no tnt no nothing!!! it clearly shows on the minimap you're suppose to blow these 2 objectives yet i searched the whole fraking map and there's NO tnt!!:mad:

Yeah, he posted earlier in this thread the objectives now are just dm, he'll release a version with objectuves at a later date.

ah the wonders of reading. :) I had intended to remove the first objectives from the .txt before I sent it, but I forgot...it's ok since it WILL be like that in a month, and trust me, it'll look really good, I have a test version of it and the explosions are crazy and don't cause lag. That's my main concern is lag and playability. But don't worry, you'll get your wish when I return.

one question though!! why did u leave the sky as the default desert sky?!! that just looks terrible with a snow mountain peak map!!

Dude, I've been at KK2 for the last 2 hours or so, it ranged from just 3 ppl to like 16 or so and we went through almost every map, and it was a damn fun time. Seriously, go play at kk2 with the pack its loads of fun.

yea it was cool!, i was on KK2 and so was Kruger and woopy, and played most of the maps, they are really good. i like the fun music.

For all you ppl who contributed, and all of those who wanted to, you will have a second chance, to submit, edit, bugfix, whatnot. I'm going on vacation, starting next Monday, until the 13th. However, after that, there will be an updated version of the pack released. With it will come updated versions of maps that are in the pack, such as cliffside with objectives, other fixes.

Also, there is the chance that some new maps might show up in the pack, maybe bumping some old ones out, raiders is fun but ppl can already get it, if ppl really hate one map, that sort of thing. But your chances are a bit lower than the original release. Don't let it discourage you however, if I like your map a lot and it playtests well, it has a very good chance.

A tentative submission date is the 19th. Plz, don't send your updates or submissions before the 14th. There's no point since I'll be gone, and you might as well just work on it more in that time.

I've already submitted my map but have another one, I'm currently working on, that is some kind of variation of it. Is it possible to submit this one if there aren't lot of other mappers who want to contribute???

That's cool Whoopy42. This pack is a LOT of fun (just imagine 20 people on dod_rush, all using the knife only ;) thanks opie :), or imagine playing dod with the chicken-dance music, or imagine your C47 has just crashed on a snowy hill full of germans)...

I'd like to submit a second map for the next pack.
To do that I need the help of a mapper for the brushwork and the texturing. I'll add the entities.
In fact I could do the map all by myself. But
4 eyes on a map is better than 2.
2 persons working on 1 map brings more experiences.
Brainstorming is a good philosophy.
Work as a team on 1 map is very interesting.

Since all my favourite mappers are on holiday, PM if you are interested and want to get more infos.
It will be something in the same idea of dod_mythic (ie with moving and scary things, always something new, that is my philosophy), but quite different.

I've played yesterday evening on KK2 server which ran the small maps pack and well some of the maps need some things to be changed.

First dod_slope IMO is way too unbalanced. I played as an allie and we were unable to cap the flags!!! It was a sniper fest... not fun!!!

Second, dod_rush is fun but one or two more little areas would bring more to the gameplay!!!

Third, dod_zigliara (actually my contribution) happens to lag on some machines (25fps) I've tried to be very careful when designing it but I think the problem is the terrain is too complex... I'm gonna work it out again and make it much simple.

There're the only maps I've tried since I ain't got not much time to play on these days... Great fun though!!!

Slope is tons of fun m8, hard to see how it could be unbalanced considering both slopes are exactly the same.

I noticed the fps problem, definately needs to be fixed if it's gonna be included.

Well, to quasi bring this back from the dead, I am almost home from my trip. (I live in Vancouver, BC, Canada. I went on a roadtrip to Toronto/St. Catherine's, ONT, Canada, and will be home in about 4/5 days. I will need a little time to work on the map since there has been no way for me to work on it since release day. I believe I will have a finished version by the 22nd-24th range of August. I had a lot of time to think over and work out some solutions to a few of the little things needed for cliffside and came up with a concept for a new map as well during the 10000 or so kilometres I've travelled :p I'll be able to give more concise information when I return but it's going to be a little unpredictable with the forest fires and road closures happening in BC right now. Hope to talk to you guys soon. -Gorbachev

I've worked on zigliara and it's ok. I've tested it with 20 bots= no lag on my ati AIW 8500DV... if someone want to playtest it pm me cause I won't have much time to play till last week of august...
