Garand Skin WIP (Mesh Release also)

07-19-2003, 05:41 PM
Hey ho everyone. Some of you may have been following the development of my Garand, and I decided to make a new thread, since my last one ended up being mostly a big fight. Please try not to get off topic on this one.

Anyway, i got some work done on the wood today, and here is some eye candy. First, however, due to popular demand, i will post the Meshes and Model in a Zip file.

07-20-2003, 07:13 AM
Can i have? in .mdl format????

07-20-2003, 09:13 AM
Looks good, there's some proportion problems near the front of the bolt and the left side of the reciever, though.

07-20-2003, 01:54 PM
please explain hallock, and i'll try my best to fix.

07-20-2003, 04:03 PM
The actually bolt itself is too tall, our atleast the round part. The left side is missing detail that the default model has. Go look and you'll know what I mean.

07-20-2003, 04:55 PM
as to the bolt, i can fix that. But, for the detail on the left side, i purposefully left most of it out. In early skin tests, i found that i could simulate that detail on just the skinmap.

ok, i know u guys are sick of seeing the bare model, but, i finally got smoothing how i want it.

07-21-2003, 11:11 AM
Are you going to extend the Barrel and such like the Default to get that FoV thingy...

the bayonet needs fixed, it wasnt a rectangle that slid over the barrel, it was a circle, if you need refs ill post some. Doesnt look to shabby ;)

EDIT Looked at that new pic and the bayonet looks much better, just make sure when you skin it dont use the m4 bayonet, I saw a couple people do that.

JUST IMHO, butt i like this wood type better, see pic

Mr Fu.....good work on the model......the reason I'm posting is because your model is great and I'd like to see it as accurate as possible. From CMP's site on how to field strip a is the section on how to field strip the bolt assembly.

So my thing is with the bolt itself. You can see in yours, the "head" of the bolt (the round part that collects the cartridge) is not as "tall" I guess as the rest of the length of the bolt. In your model the bolt head is almost double the height of the rest of the bolt. So it looks kind of.....ok, I won't beat around the looks very off. Now again, not meant in a harsh way, hopfully taken as constructive critisim. Thanks and keep up the good work, the wood looks sweet.

:D looks great. you should make a shouldered view of it tho.

07-23-2003, 12:22 PM
very nice, i love the mesh, its a great mesh and it's a good mesh t skin

For the meshing, most of your appreciation should be directed to Mach. He is the best mesher i've ever seen, and i love his work. It's always made skinning ALOT easier. I just did a few touchups to the mesh, like sizing of certain meshes, to ensure detail on the parts that require alot of detail (aka, parts nearest screen)

07-23-2003, 01:18 PM
ok thy for the mesh mach :)

i tried skinning triggers garand but the wood mesh is strange on it so i came to yours MrFu and its perfect

Sorry if this has been asked before, or if I asked this already (Im lazy and cant be bothered reading all the posts). Will you be making Garrand with buttsmack ability?

07-23-2003, 02:24 PM
yeah, being a skinner, i tweaked the stock mesh to be REALLY easy to deal with.
