|MWIP| British Commando Weapon Pack

Ok, you historically correct guys might get your panties in a bunch over my pack since not every gun Im making was in widespread use but for all of us who want the total commando experience this pack is for you.

First and foremost. The average commando had a Mk2-S silenced sten gun. This model isnt 100% done but I've got a first render and progress is good with it.

http://www.dodstudios.net/uploads/uploads/mks1.jpg

Second, we have the utmost of the rare weapons. The Folding Stock Delisle Carbine. This model is also not 100% done but I wanted you all to take a gander at it.

http://www.dodstudios.net/uploads/uploads/foldingdelisle1.jpg

Third, another rare weapon was the delisle commando carbine that was based off the Enfield rifle. Cheeto is re-animating this for me and its about 95% done.

http://www.dodstudios.net/uploads/uploads/stockdelisle1.jpg

Based off the Delisle Commando Carbine, commandos customized them to their liking often slapping a scope on the standard Delisle Carbine.

http://www.dodstudios.net/uploads/uploads/scopeddelisle1.jpg

These are all works in progress but I hope to have them done in about a week. Im also working on a silenced .22 pistol so it will be a complete pack. Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated.

Phew that was a lot of typing lol

were the silencers on the sten that really ****ing big? I mean jeez, its longer than the gun itself

Joe Anderson
07-17-2003, 10:53 PM
yup the silences were that long, plus, you have to account for DOD distorting the front of the gun.

Great work mate, i was wondering when these would reappear lol

I think I see one problem here, All these guns are silenced. Which emans I assume your going to include sopme nice silenced weapon noises. Which means these same noise will be heard from 3rd person shooters as well as from the 1st person perspective. So basically, if your playing as the germans, you wont be hearing a bloody thing.

07-18-2003, 04:01 PM
I'm all about historical accuracy and frankly i think these are great. good work, cant wait for them to get released.

BTW- I think my sig is better. It's hard to beat a chick in her intimate apparel. I could go further, but yeah that wouldn't be so good for me.....

Oh yeah its also cool cause it's got a russian soldier on it. ZA RODINU!

I have never had a problem with Bishop´s typing. But I remember the "Random Nonsense" thread you started while you were stoned some months ago.
Well, this was much more difficult to understand.

yeah, I hate playing as the axis against the british on maps because I love my 10 shots with the enfield.

There wont be a bren replacement because thats the gun the commandos used for heavy support. These models are all WIPs and are in no way 100% done, and yes Dev, they will come with silenced sounds so be warned. This pack will make it difficult to play as axis but hey, I used silenced weapons in 3.1 and I think it made me better as a player since I used my teamates more and stopped relying on following sounds.

Thats my two cents for now, I'll keep up with progress shots.

BTW, that DeLisle is being *****y to me, so it's taking me a bit longer to animate the reload than I thought it would.

looking forward to this pack and the silenced sten. That's the one gun I just can't seem to control properly, because of the model and the sound not fitting the recoil.

Eagerly awaiting this pack.

[Edit] I've been seeing a lot of ref pics online of a silenced sten with what looks to be a canvas or leather foregrip on the barrel.

http://www.rememuseum.org.uk/arms/submachg/armsmg2.htm

Just wondering what was used more commonly, the grip or just the barrel.

Can u pit a cloth jacket at right near the clip I have seen a couple like that...

Correct. I saw a real silenced MkII a few weeks ago with the canvas shroud on and I believe they all had it.

Did you notice as well in that pic that the reciever has been turned 90 degrees to make the magazine hang vertical? Not ideal but it was possible.

its also had the stock removed, done for concealment although even *smaller* variants of the sten were made, most pistol size although some could be wedged inside your elbow's and hidden under jacket sleeves.

Yeah, I saw a pic back in the 2.1 days, of someone holding I believe a sten, with their left hand on the trigger, so the clip was facing up. Very weird looking, but it looks like it would have worked.

The canvas grip would be VERY cool, even if it was just an extra texture we could slap on after (just have to see about how the supressor is mapped, and how the image would end up flipped. I tried putting a somewhat canvas thing ont he default sten, and the way it's mapped, makes it a little tough for someone not very versed in skinning.

And yeah, there's so many different models of certain guns, some very cool looking, some odd and don't look like they'd work at all (french mg anyone?).

Joe Anderson
07-19-2003, 03:10 PM
There were many varients of the Sten gun, and most of the silenced models had a foregrip around the silencer as it got very hot after extended use. I havent gotten around to adding that to the Sten yet, I just wanted to start the thread as is with what I had at the moment. There will be 2 maybe even 3 versions of the silenced Sten I'll put in the pack, the MK5-S, the MK2-S, and MK3-S variations. Im going through and adding details to all the models as I go along, the folding stock delisle is gonna be the biggest pain because there were only a handfull in real life so pictures are scarce. I've got every picture in exisitence I believe of the folding stock delisle lol. All right, since Im home sick from work I might as well get some more work done on this. More progress shots later.

I've been sick and down for the count the past week so I'm a little slow getting updates to things. I was gonna do a silenced OSS .22 pistol to replace the webley but it was gonna be a ***** to accomplish animation wise so the webley stays as does the Bren gun. I hope to have things done in a timely fashion.

Animations are a problem? Well damn, I wonder what can be done about that...

Devin Kryss
07-24-2003, 12:53 AM
Is there some reason the Colt 1911 animations cant be applied to the .22 pistol?

Ska Wars
07-24-2003, 05:01 AM
i made a browning pistol a while back which needs skinning and more work. You're more than welcome to have it and tart it up if its any good? I got the colt .45 animations to run at pretty much the same speed as the webleys so it work ok in game.

Although its only six shots which can be a bit weird. If you're like me I try and fire off as many shots in as little time as possible so I kinda panic when its empty after only a few shots lol (I'm a big BAR/Bren ***** basically lol)

Anyway, keep up the good work mate, I'm really looking forward to those rifles. Will there be some player models to go with these?

Ska

Joe Anderson
07-24-2003, 10:18 AM
go ahead and send me that gun ska along with the animations and I'll see what I can do. I guess I'll do the .22 and see what happens.

crap I'm just now getting back to work on these....damn Africa map models have consumed me:) not that its a bad thing, but now that Im finishing those and they sorta had a due date, I can start back on my commando weapons including OSS .22 Silenced pistol with colt animations:)

Ok, I've got the modeling part done on these puppies, I just need a weapon animator. I gave some to cheeto but hes too busy with other crap to do my stuff so Im asking for some help. Im messing with orientations right now but until I get an animator I cant release these. The sten gun I've got 2 versions of....one is the standard MKII-S with foregrip to keep your hands nice and cool, and the second is a custom job I've seen some pictures of where the magazine is hanging down from the barrel like a tommy or greasegun. I need an animator for the 2nd version, and a custom reload for my delise and then we shall have liftoff. As always suggestions are welcome and if you can animate and can help out, let me know ASAP so this can get done and I can move on to other things....like commandos to go with the weapons ;)

P.S: That Sten = hawt...

Joe Anderson

the greaser reload is ok for it, its just that the grip is all messed up if I use anything but the standard animations.

I -love- the concept. I will be very much diving head-first in to this as soon as it's released. Along with a Lewis gun, if anyone ever releases one. :D

I can't access DoD Studios, so I can't see the original pics [I never can seem to...]. I'm wondering if the scope on the sniper will be the high-poly one released somewhere around the time 1.0 was released? If so, could you possibly include a version without the cut-off back-face polies? :D

This would go sooooooooooooo sweet with Trp. Jed's berret-wearing commandos.

Joe Anderson
08-30-2003, 10:35 AM
Im backing up the original pics on my website so those will be back up soon, and yes the scoped delisle has the high poly and 512x512 texture scoped on it. Updates soon on both weapons and player models....still looking for an animator for the delisle and sten.

|EDIT| I know the middle of the model is scrunched together. its fixed now but not updated in the picture...sorry bout that...but the picture gives the general idea of whats going on with the model and animations.
