Using many differents WADs?

Is there any drawback in using too many different wad files?

I plan to use all DoD standard wad files in Hammer, although I only use 1-6 textures really from every wad file... Is there any problem associated with it? (in other words, to include in a custom map 1 to 6 textures from 10 different wad files)

Also I have seen some nice models in new DoD, but maybe some are too little... is there a way to make models bigger?

BTW, new DoD is slooower :p we will have to buy greatest machines

nope, using many different wad's is harmless however if you get any problems, like pink-black squares or something that has to do with that, but that change is verry slim

Just remember the wad limit is 7(or 8???). Any more that and you'll start having problems most likely.

I had a magically moving leak once. its best to merge them all into one. cause it was the over 8 wads files that caused it.

there is a command to put into batch compiler (by Nemesis)

just go to CSG tab and add the paramater -nowadtextures doing that will only use the textures from each wad that you use

if you make all the wads into one huge was, then who ever runs the map will have to download that and will make your map HUGE, like 200 mb+ and i dont think you would want that

The best solution is compile many (used) textures to one wad using Wally. Anyway there are some wads from which you use just one or few textures (HL with Sky texture, ZHLT wad with NULL and HINT ones, etc.). Other nice side of this is much faster work of Hammer and a lot lower memory usage.

I was talking about using all new standar wad texture files with DoD 1.0 at the same time... or at leat add them to Hammer before mapping.

i forgot, what is the exceptable texture memory limit? like 5 megs or something?

Generally speaking, for official maps we have limited texture memory to 5 megs, which includes model textures. You are free to do whatever you want, however we strongly advise you to test maps with larger than 5 megs of texture memory usage with your friends before you do a wide release to the public. You want to make sure people with lower end systems can still run it well, assuming you are interested in that.

Do you noramlly limit how many textures you use for each type of thing (like 1 door texture, 2 rubble, 5 building, 1 grass....)

Or do you just use whatyou want, then try and manage it in the end?
