I am surprised no one has called these models out as 'hax' meaning their size makes them kind of easier to see....
We shall see...

I wish not to start trouble but question if this could be an exploit and IF it really does indeed help FPS.
It's not an exploit and yes.. it does help fps.

Bishop, I've yet to see a post by you where you're not being a numbnut about everything. How in the hell could this be considered an exploit? Collisions are detected by bounding boxes, and as soon as your model doesn't fit in the bounding boxes, it gets rejected by the server, meaning it officially becomes what you call an "exploit".
Stop being so concerned about "OMG HAXX THIS HAXX THAT BLAH". If you think of it in your narrowminded manner, everything's a hack. The canteen's and weapons on Devin Kryss's models STICK OUT compared to the REGULAR MODELS. OMG HAXZX!!!!!1111 HOLY COW THE WOOD ON SOME CUSTOM GARAND P MODELS ARE MORE VISIBLE THAN OTHERS OMGOMGOMGOMG. NO.
Models that improve FPS aren't hacks at all, they're there for low end users who usually have to be the underdogs (me not included, but my friend yes). He plays at 5 frames per second, and when I see him shooting a Thompson, his gun fires slower than normal because of the graphical lag. Why would balancing this out be considered a cheat at all?
Get that cork out of your ass and stop being such a crap about everything.
P.S. Read the forum rules: NO EXPLOIT TALK. If the moderators had considered low poly models to be an exploit in any way, they would have locked all the threads requesting them and even this release thread. SO THEY'RE NOT. So be quiet and go to a cave and complain to someone who cares, like a rock.

I´m not sure about the "h4x", but I really would never use such models.
I mean...they are....these look.....like Lego....
I´have got a high end pc with a good connection, but if I would be on 56k I also wouldn´t like to play with them. It´s not the same DoD feeling anymore with these Lego models.

Bishop, do you always bash every thread thats not yours? you have to learn to respect work that others have made and not automatically say "omg hax" if your going to make an immature post like that its better off that you didnt post it at all
i dont come to your thread and say "omg hax" because your models are different, either way, anything customized can be seen as a hack... anyways...just stop being so in-sensitive and obnoxious

Podunkian, I've yet to see a post made by you at all. Who the hell do you think you are? I was just stating they COULD BE CONSIDERED AN EXPLOIT. Really, I could care fking less, and how about you watch who the hell you are insulting. No need to use big words from a little man.
Guerilla, I don't bash threads. I was stating something and your contradicting yourself by flaming me. How about you go along with your little buddy Podunkian and flame elsewhere. And stop being the Forum Police. We have moderators to control posters and no moderator has said what I've posted to be offensive so please, go shine some concern on yourself.
To the point, these can be considered exploits and sorry for expressing my god-given right to have an opinion.
Don't troll.

His comparison shot of the smoothshaded models was to prove that the high-fps models arent any bigger in size than the defaults.

The problem is, when you load them into HLMV, all models get scaled to a certain size, no matter how big they really are.
You can't compare them that way.

dude... I think you can still shave a few polys off the budget... Make the hands simple boxes as well, and Ta Da! Even lower poly ... :D
What's strange is that those models sort of remind me of the combat shields used by Paul Atreides & Gurney Halleck in David Lynch's DUNE ...

guys please stop this usless flame war,
all i was trying to do was make models to help fellow DOD addicts (like my self) get a higher framrate if they were having troubles with it.
i my self once needed such models and raingrove came to the rescue then
so i just remembered how happy i was and tryed to return the favor to others in need of these
if a moderator or team member considers these are a "hax" please let me know and ill take down the download ASAP

Just for the record, I don't post here alot, but I'm the one that did the first "Distant Sound" models, and I technically released the first 3rd Person 3D Muzzle Flashes (Not originally my idea though). I made the first working set of "headshot face-skin changing models. I've released a Goldeneye soundpack in the Sounds section. I've done some custom animations in the past, um... I've played DOD since ~1.3b. Etc. etc. etc. Yeah, so I guess I'm just a nobody.
But getting back on topic, another way you could improve the performance is by reducing the texture size. I mean sure it wouldn't really matter THAT much, but if you're trying to milk your FPS for all it's worth, it's worth a shot.
Another thing you might wanna consider doing is figuring out a way to further reduce the triangle count (by a minimal amount...?) by welding vertexes together and removing extra faces.
The problem with the models really though, are that even with low poly playermodels, you've still got fairly taxing weapon models that might lag low-end computers anyway. And add onto that the 16-bit sounds DOD uses, and the particle effects, sometimes poor mapping and heavy CPU usage blah blah, and in reality these low-poly models might not do much at all. Might being the key word though.
I can see why you did them though, sometimes something as minor as these really do make a difference, especially in high player count servers, where every extra player usually accounts for a whopping 6 or 7 hundred more triangles rendered.
So yeah, while this is a good idea, sure, I'm not quite sure on the effectiveness of it.
And that my friends is how you "criticise" (I use the term loosely) without offending anyone.
Normally i have 20 fps, and its so difficult to play with this fps.
With this models, i have 30-35, dont ask my why, but its real.
My engilsh is a **** xD

to be honest you cant get lower poly then this, you could technically but the animations would serve no purpose, making the hands boxes would increase polys actually, the hands are triangles and triangles are the base of a polygon, a flat 1 planed triangle is 1 poly while a flat planed square is 2 polys, hehe when you get stuck with 5 fps, you do your homework on saving polys, and btw, im getting smooth 30 fps with this now when i would be having 8 fps....thats a pretty huge jump
these are the maps i cudnt play before due to horrible fps:
caen
donner
flash
charlie
kalt
now i can play all those maps with better framerate, except for kalt and charlie, those 2 maps alone eat away at framerate, charlie is huge, nothing u can do about that, and kalt is...poorly designed r_speed wise
either way, gabagoo, without you, i would be playing... quake 2
lol that rhymes

i just had a good idea gabagoo. scince you seem to like to make low poly stuff for the people who have FPS problems, why not make a 'low poly pack' ?
it could be very easy, for the weapons you could convert all the P models to V models, throw in your player models, and then some other things, like a 2 polygon flag, that isnt animated or something like that, or mabey making low poly sand bags, (boxes?) just a few ideas. could relly help some people out.
