Why the jagged lines!

More often then not, when I make great looking arches in hammer, I get disappointed in game when the brushes don't look like they are connecting. Here's what I mean: http://www.freewebs.com/mexikilla/rain30000.jpg

In hammer I have made sure the vertices are in the right spots but it usually works out like in the above picture. Am I doing something wrong here? How can I fix this?

Thanks

people dont make the slopes for the side of the arch a decent number like acorss 1 and up 2. This means its impossible to match the other slopes end onto it. that results in a tiny gap which you see. Its really just bad brushwork.

just select the arch in hammer, and vertex manipulate every vertex onto the nearest point.

Boy...that arch looks familiar :P

Probably relates to what your sig says.

Always make arches of vertical "pilars"... and never carve :D

looks like you clipped the brushes to make arches :(

@Jello_Biafra: that didn't work thx anyway

@Kehldon: doing vertical "pillars" now thx

@Andy: Hehe I started doing a Ramelle map because I didn't want to believe that it couldn't be done with the HL engine. I got pretty far actually, got most of the buildings, with good r_speeds, but when I rotate the buildings to the accurate layout, r_speeds go to hell... :( Thus my attempt is over until HL2 and I guess I should change my siggeh to what I am working on right now... So to answer your question it isn't the belltower that so many of us want to snipe in. :p

@skdr: oopsie yah I did clip my arch, that's how I learned from a tutorial somewhere a long time ago when I started mapping. I'd do an sphere, cut it in half than clip my wall along the arch. Guess I won't be doing that anymore.

Thanks guys

Ah I see...I just saw your signature, and the style of the arch looks similar to the arches in the Ramelle bell tower, so I put two and two together...

When you want rotated building you have to create it rotated from the beginning or rotate straight one then move every vertex to grid position. This would be a hell of work, so better try 1st method. Of course r_speeds reduction is much harder with such buildings but it is needed for any good map (variations in architecture and layout).
Eventually you may try rotating by mirroring some building. Let's say you have done one building with walls at 30 degrees (2x1) then you can flip/mirror it and get 1x2 one and so on.
