Yeah bugger the realism, it's a cool looking gun. C'mon, I'll even give someone some ref pics (I don't have the time to do it myself).
Bump.
The lewis was used some by the british in ww2 and, it only weighs a little over 4lbs more than the Bren. So it's not unrealistic to have.

tbh you'd better hide before the americans come in here and start complaing about us trying to destroy the realism. Don't try to justify it, that'll just make them crosser.
We deserve a nice Lewis Gun model, we poor brits ahve been sweapt aside in dod for too long, tbh 3 maps and 5 guns aint enough (2 of those guns are the same pretty much) But a lewis would make a nice Bren replacement, maybe with half loaded drum mags or with small belts feeding it?

Still about Jed, just not been that active at the min modeling and playing dod. I've just got hold of some 1 player games that i'm putting a bit of time into for a change.
Anyway here is my lewis model, just need to add a few more things and it will be finished.

Please though don't say you will help if your not good at one or more of the above, i mean no offence, i just wont peeps who are good at what they do, to originally work on my models for there first release.
I have a full set of British weapon models that need some finishing touches added to them, and ill also be looking for help with these aswell, they are all accrete to the real thing and are hi poly models.
The modeling is about 90% finished.

Well I can stick a basic looking skin on it for show until you get a better one - metal 's not my forté. What about Poly?
As for animation - I usually look for another set of anims close to what I want from the default DoD and start from there.

I was thinking of the Lewis anim's more then any of the others, because we will need this animating from scratch i think, and it would be good if an animator could join us, because fresh anim's are always a good thing if done well.
between Jed and Marzy you may just do us brits proud. TBH if i weren't a hetrosexual male without a womb I'd happily father your puppies :)
You two are there to be wubbed and I hope to god you don't feel your work goes unappreciated.
My little requests are speed is vital please release stuff as soon as is possible in what are I imagine very busy lives you lead
Secondly the Mk5 with pistol type foregrip wouldbe lovely
The stuff you've made looks wonderful and some shoulderview version would go down a treat, none of that pamby ironsight nonsense
Don't forget to animate the rotation of the drum mag during firing.

What do you mean? Im American and I would love to see the Lewis gun.
Also that thing you said about having their puppies is hilarious lol

IIRC the drum doesn't rotate at all. It has a circular spring inside that is cranked back inside ina spiral and that pushes the bullets out into the gun
and tbh puppies are teh win
http://www.blackrivermilitaria.com/belts/jap~lewis~mag.jpg http://www.blackrivermilitaria.com/belts/Lewisdrum.jpg The first pic is one loaded the second pic is the top cover. the end of the cartridge fits in the grooves of the drum's case, in order to work the drum would have to rotate. http://www.american180.com/articles/mgn12-95.html the second paragraph clearly states, "The Lewis gun's operating mechanism powered its drum magazine."

What the hell is that supposed to mean? The Americans have been wanting a Lewis as long as the Brits and Germans. And I've heard just as many of them *****ing about the realism, too.
MaRzY, this might be able to use my DP anims once I get them done, and since I intend to save them in MS3D format (so I can easily edit them) I might be able to tailor them to fit the gun better if they don't already.

jcoquillon, not to beat a dead horse, as it seems two have already commented. But your flame on Americans was obnoxious and not warrented. Most people here are Realism nazis, but not all of them are from the US. Wise up, pal. Don't be such a jerk, at least not without proper prompting first.
I guess the message here is simple:
THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA:
We're not ALL jerks.

and tbh you say tbh entirely too much.
I apologise if I have offended any one. I've joined in discussions about adding an MG class with a lewis for Brits in the Suggestions forum and each time a huge wave of negative feedback is soon deposited on it for one reason or another. Whenever any addition is suggested to augment the brits this seems to happen and I made a joking reference to it. If it really upset people that much I'll retract the comment.
I didn't set out to offend you all and feel quite upset that I have. I try to make sure to keep my comments light hearted and avoid anything that will cause this type of situation and in this case I have made an error
As for the fact I say tbh far too much, you have me there 100%. I spend too much time in IRC and it's absolutely everywhere. Believe meI have been striving to use it less as much as possible.
I am sorry

Well my sig has always mentioned it (sarcasm not tictacs), I'm not going to defend my actions though as I don't want to risk any more provocation for further flaming. I made a comment that was tongue in cheek and it back fired. I should have said "Realism Freaks" and not Americans, I just always assumed it was Americans who complained when we Brits suggested we were hard done by.
I'm mostly upset I've caused disruption to the praise of the wonderful work of Marzy and Jed in this topic. Don't stop now lads, they may still be able to fit through a door, their heads need to double in size yet
I very sensible reply, usuallyl if I make a statement like that I just put on my flame retardant clothing, but your idea was better!

I'm Canadian and I think Lewis guns rock. At least the image of ass-whooping they invoke, which has been with me since Punisher whipped two out in an other-worlds Wild West story. ^_^
