RELEASE: dod_foxley_b1

Hi all, finally I've decided to release the map as is and hope you'll give some feedbacks.

But first I must say I've changed some things since I begun the project:

- US para instead of Brits (no para!!!)
- details added
- light changed
- w_polys and e_polys reduced
- some more secondary ways

The houses could use some work. They don't match with the theme. You got very wide, but short houses. Just seems akward.

im just downloading it cos i like the concept (kill hitler). If it is good ill perswade my clan to put it on their server.

EDIT: err you must remeber to add any sounds, models etc in ur map that dont come with the standard dod. I kept getting model not found messages. so i cant play it :(

I'd of used a different road texture in a second. thats some sort of weird ugly sand (no offence to texture maker but i dont like it). roads would be sand they'd be dirt, and they'd have a small sort of strip of grass in the center where wheels go go often.

For the map I'm making, I've stuck all my models in my own folder (ie models/burn) to reduce confusion. A lot of CS mappers do this too.

yea and some other models too, cpt.muppets idea is good, but i just remeber which ones are custom.

u gonna have to work it out.

and make a new zip with all of it in, and so it unzips to the dod folder.

I'm quiet surprised as I thought that the flag models where dod standards:confused: but it seems not:confused:

Anyway I've updated the link and you can now download a good version with all models I used (except ouitz trees and arc_fern and similar which are standards models)

i just played it on my own to see what its like.

here are my comments and suggestions.

not a bad map, quite nice.

the bunkers are too high i think, and are weirdly shaped. It would be good if the bunkers were capped by going in them, and not a flag next to it.

I like the airstrike, the village should have a few more houses that can be accessed.

and I know its ment to be a british mission, but its wierd having bagpipes when USA win. either change the sound, or change it to British.

some questions.

what are the bazookas for, destroyable walls? (i couldnt find any)

how do the axis win, (capping all the flags i presume?)

EDIT, you should really test it before releasing it, when i say testing i mean get 12-14 people with a server and play it for an hour, and ask for all their opinions/comments. it will help u out a lot.

I would probably turn the bunker into cap areas.
For the bagpipes it's an error... the bazookas are a plus to kill Hitler but it's not necessary... well, I think it was not necessary to include them...
The axis win if they succeed in defending Hitler during the 18 minutes...
I know I should have playtested it but I don't have any server to play on neither 12/14 buddies to play with end test the map so I release a beta1 and all the suggestions are welcome.

This map is looking good, SeRuM. Downloading now.

If I could give you some suggestions:
- To test your map, rename your dod folder, reinstall it, then install the map and play it. This way you'll see if all the files are in the install program (long, but radical solution).

- Send your map to friends, as TheNomad pointed out, so that they can test it. Their opinion is very important. If 10 people say the same thing, and if you don't have serious arguments, do what they say. That's how I work.
You can find players ready to test some new maps on irc, or just ask in the forums, just ask and they will give you more than what you expected.

- To test the map, you can create your own server. It will run fine if there are not many players, depending on your connection.
This small test is already a lot to find bugs, judge the gameplay, etc... You can even add bots, they are very helpfull. You can contact your buddies wit irc, msn, icq or dunno what else.

If you need, I would be glad to test your pre-released maps in the future. You know where you can find me ;)

I dont see why test maps shouldn't be released on to here for the browsers of this forum to test... then, they could collect all the comments from here, and fix all the bugs.

because people cant see the gameplay issues, and if its fair or not, the best way is to put ur map on a server with friends/testers and play it, and ask for their comments. that way u can see if its unfair to a certain team.

Thx guys for advices. I find it sometimes hard to gather buddies of my team -=|RzG|=- because some don't even have the Internet (we organize LAN parties once a month) so it's not heaven on earth:() and it's quite long to wait for a whole month to test a map that is already releasable...

I'll probably work on it at the end of the week so since if you have some gameplay suggestions you know what to do:D

Also the doors look well weird, they are just short enough for s1 to fit thru and wide, so they look squashed. make them higher.
