How badly do you need a u-boat map model?

Ok question,

A couple of years back I made a quick low-poly u-boat model for someone who was building a sub pen based map. Spent a couple of weeks doing it and in the end it never got used. I stuck it up on my site and to my knowledge, to date no-one has actually every used in a map.

Two weeks ago I got approached if someone could use it for a Source based map which I had no objection too although I pointed out that it was really low poly (it was originally made for Goldsrc) and would probably look bad. I did however update it with the original high-res textures.

Now... sat on my site has been a picture of an updated uboat model I was making for Source and it got as far as being model and the texture 60% done but never any further. Ham and Jam took most of my time and as no-one seemed to be making sub maps or needed one I put it to one side.

I've been looking at the model again and wondering if I should put the effort in to finish it but I'm wondering how much "demand" there is for a uboat model? If I put the effort into finishing it, is anyone actually going to use it?

Heres a link to the map their developing which uses my old model:

And here you can see the new model (under Vehicle Models, 2nd column, 3rd row):

Give me some feedback - if I finish this how likely is it to get used?

unless my sewer has some mutant sub no I can't implement such a nice model into dod_koln :P

I'm sure it might get used in did_pier, only really dock style map i seen.

I do need a modified train model though if you want summat to do ;) (see sig)

Hi Trp. Jed!

I'll soon start working on a submarine map, probably La Rochelle, Lorient or Bordeaux, therefore I really would like to use your model.

I've made a brush-based one for DoD_Luebeck but missing a proper 10.5 CM gun and a sweet texture it can't compete with this neat model of yours.

Great job seriously and I'd love to use it.

Oh, and... do you think you can ever make a low-poly low-detail skybox model of it? That would so rock. :)

Cheers,

Albatros

I'll find a place for it. Please make it so.

loved the glider model too -- ever think about making a b17 model? I've got a map idea I've been kicking around, with all the little b17s flying overhead in our maps, would be neat to have a crashed up version to play in.

....who made subterrania? didn't that have a uboat in it? your low poly version, pani?

I could definetly use that sub model in my very soon to be released sub map. I made a bsp sub that looks decent but the model would be much nicer for sure. The map is 97% complete ( I haven't released any pics of the level yet, pm me jed if ya wanna see it). If you could share the model, that would be awesome. It looks great !

Thanks

:)

The U-Boat looks amazing, and would definately lead to a flurry of U-Pen maps. I've already seen one or two of these boats, brush based, in dod:s maps, and tbh, and with no malice towards their makers, they don't look very convincing at all. I don't plan on making a U-map myself, but I'd love to see your model put to good use. 60% finished you say. My own models look a lot worse than that at 100%.

And Jed, thank you for all the good stuff you've made over the years. I've wanted to have your babies on a few occasions. :D

Is there an eta on the release of this model?
