Question for Map Makers.

I have read and seen that some maps are made for a certain amount of people.
So my question is.
Are some Maps restricted.
And if so how do I tell?
And what happens?
Example:
We were at 32 people on the server the map changed to kalt_r-final. We ended up with 20.
When Steam releases and update, and not everyone gets the update, at least you see people connecting. They don't get into the game, but at least you see people trying.
Please Help!!

its not restricting, its lack of spawn points, real mappers will make sure to include enough spawns for the games maximum - day of defeat has 32 so 16 per team would be logical but i guess some people dont put in enough spawn points because they are bad.
open up the bsp in a txt doco if you really want to goto that much trouble and just count the info_player_allies and info_player_axis
*edit* in ns the maps are limited to a certain player ammount but im sure this isnt your deal, check out the config files that came with the maps also

So first off..
Would it let the players connect if restricted?
Just wouldn't let them spawn?
Second:
in ns the maps are limited to a certain player ammount but im sure this isnt your deal, check out the config files that came with the maps also
What is ns?
And none of the maps come with configs.
DOD:s - The bsp is ususally the only file..
I will open the bsp with txt editor to look..

bit of a generalisation.
ns = natural-selection.

They are all custom maps, they don't come in with the steam update. They have to be downloaded seperately and installed.
If a player doesn't have the map, they won't be able to play. They have to download the maps themselves, or from the server and this takes time.
Maybe the players on the map before it changed all had that custom map, but not dod_kalt_r-final so when they went to connect they wouldn't have been able to? They would have had to download it first. If you see them "trying" to connect it usually means that they are downloading the map or have been rejected from the server because they do not have the map.

Thanks for the info..
But yeah i have been setting servers up for a long time..
I am aware they are custom..
And we have Fast DL's through our webserver.
I even went into HLSW, which usually will show the people connected, but dling the map..
I am pretty sure people just dropped.. because they didn't want to DL the Map.
The Map vote that came up was very definitive on kalt night.
Usually the vote gets split up.. This vote was arnd 85% for it..
Can someone verify my method of determining the Map lots?
I opened in Wordpad and did a search for the info_player_allies and info_player_axis.
I counted each time each on came up.
thanks!!

I'm pretty sure its just a case of people not wanting to download the map and dropping from the server. Either because they don't want to wait for the map or have had enough.
If people want to give up playing for the day, they'll usually wait till the map ends before exiting.

I just wanted to make sure..
