I suck at map making so if anyone here thinks its a cool idea plz make it. Anyway I like the place ramelle [The ending in Saving Private Ryan] with the bell tower and rubble everywhere. Seems cool to me.Ramelle Page (http://www.sproe.com/r/ramelle.html)

Nor seen it?
Aye, twas fun. A centre bridge that was constantly bombed by, well, planes. Good dark corners for sniping.. Ah, the good ol' days/maps.
*edit: Your link doesn't work.

Heh yeah there was a map called Ramelle, it was quite good really, that small sniper hole was so annoying though, and as I recall the bridge was a 4 person cap ( 3 maybe?) which seemed excessive as there was hardly any cover from the masses of snipers around...

I missed out on a huge gap in DoD.. From when it went to that 1.0 version, and it became impossible to play on a crap machine, up until source. Hmm..

meh...merderet and sturm are good maps but i mean ramelle is different...its got many great spots for snipers and ambushes...would be so fun on source :)

Trust me, you're not the first person to suggest making a version closer to the movie, if you went back through all the posts that have ever been in the mapping forums, I'd guess at least 100 were about this. There've been plenty of attempts too, if I remember correctly there was dod_suze that never was released, I think there was gonna be a combined effort at one point, a few others that may or may not have been released. In any case they obviously never really were successful. On the old engine it wasn't really realistic to have a map that open, with so much debris and whatnot. It would have at least taken a lot of effort and talent, and probably it's more of a possibility on source, but I also think that a lot of the really talented mappers would much rather make 100% original content instead of copying from a movie. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to flame you here, I'm just pointing out that this is a long-running idea that has yet to come to fruitition, and I have doubts as to whether it ever will.

I'm thinking about mapping this as my first source project. I'm having troubles coming up with ideas, and the map they have (the one with the two combined sets) looks like it would be good if a few more buildings were added.
This is probably THE most requested map based on a movie, but just never done right.
Dod_ramelle, dod_merderet, Dod_Sturm...they were pretty much the same maps, with some minor differences. And that church...why can't they ever bring that bombed out church in the actual gameplay???
Done correctly in Source, as it can definitely handle the outdoors now, this map will be great.

search for watchtower. his map is ramelle. I believe the plan is to call it dod_ryan. there hasn't been an update in sometime, so I don't know where the project currently stands.

All three versions have their good points and bad points. The original Ramelle, though, had the most gawd-awful groundshake effect, from the planes dropping bombs (which you never actually saw...just the planes going over). I recall that for about 1/3 of the round, the ground and your screen were shaking like mad. Gave me a headache. :(

I googled it, and the last post I've seen anywhere about it was in May of this year. Might just assume that it's not being developed and start making mine. I'll stop mine if it comes out, though.

dod_ramelle is no longer listed on the DODS name database.
I'll leave it at that.

Ah ramelle.
Yes I have a pretty darn good version of it that I've worked on with a few people, but as it stands its on hold.
Has proven to be quite a challenging project, and HD formats, and unknowingly deleting the newest and by far best version when I unistalled steam. GAH!!!
I have a backup and some good stuff but current projects I am working on have demanded my attention.
That being said, you can map whatever you want whenever you want, and just because someone else has / is doing it, doesnt mean you cant try and make your own and perhaps better version.
Map whatever you want people. The more maps, the merrier.

PM me with evidence if you want the list updated but don't really want to release screenshots yet (don't worry, I'll keep it confidential).
