DoD:S map textures on DoD 1.3

In the past I've messed around w/ the .wad file on avalanche to have a change of scenery. I was thinking about taking the textures from DoD:S Avalanche and putting them in 1.3. I realize the map wont look exactly like the Source avalanche. But it will still give it the "source feel" I guess. I run a (1.3) 24/7 avalanche server. I'll test it out there. I'm trying to give the regulars there, who dont have a high end pc, a source-like avalanche. What do you guys think?

but... I thought the max texture dimensions for 1.3 are something like... 256x256.

Aren't the texture sizes for Source in Ava something like 2048x2048?

That'll be quite a bit of work to get everything aligned correctly though. It wouldn't be just a matter of changing the textures themselves... it would also be getting them to align with all the brushes properly.

hmm i recall talking to a moderator about posting source textures but not being allowed to use them on HL1 because not everyone who ones dod for hl1 owns HL2.

also remember these textures appear in numerous places and maps, if you mess with the avalanche wad your potentially disfiguring a few other maps as well.

But HL1 doesn't support bump mapping and all that stuff. How would it work?

It won't. He just wants to convert the base textures, adapt them to the HL1 DoD format and make replacement wads for the maps.

will that work for all clients connecting to the server, like the ented thing did for adding sprites to maps or will it only allow those with the special wad file to see it and those with the default one would not see any change?

correct. textures are on the client side. if you want to see different textures, you'll have to DL a texture pack or something.

since the textures are a client side thing, this doesn't seem like it will work to me. Unless you are talking about, having the regulars download the special wad from your website. Other's connecting will only see the regular 1.3 ava.

I'll have them dl the new .wad when they connect to the server and have the .res file call up the new wad. I've done it a million times, so I know it works. I've made a million Ava wads.
