call it something like dod_hybastogne or something.

Have a couple of farmhouses..
I know this is slightly inaccurate, but to stop spawncamping, spawn the allies behind a snowdrift on the top of the hill. Don't have any trees (for matters of r_speeds, and they look crap in HL anyway). Make sure the allies have plenty of cover to get down to the town (don't make it like a downhill beach map BTW). Perhaps give them a tunnel to get to a certain map point?

The 88's could be a TNT objective.

The allies could have some mortars like in BOB.

dod_coldline is the name of the map, it should be soon...

Well even if someone is, why should it stop you from doing a map - your point of view and imagination will be very different from someone elses, unless your just gonna do a copy of the band of brothers episode of course! (I know im hypicritical - dod_neuville :p).

Also, with the name point, even if someone has / is / will release a dod_bastogne before you, a simple name isnt going to kill your map is it? You could just pick up a battle of the bulge history book and name it any of the places within the bulge, or some made up name!

(*cough* - remember the days of fighting over such names as 'ramelle').

The guy who done dod_bastogne that is posted above is pre-beta 2 days, and hasnt released any update, so as a result you could do 1 of 2 things - either just use the name, as alot of people started to use names that were old, dead map names (cant remember who mind you!) or even email the guy if you can find a contact, and ask permission...... (the map actually had a planethalflife post before a post in the forums actually! - elephant memory)

Just map it! And where you go from there, is up to you!

Taf - Extreme owner of the 'dod_pegasus' name ;)

It were not the Allies that stormed the city of Bastogne. During the winter, 1944, The 101st Airborne division was stuck in Bastogne. They were surrounded by the Axis. And the Axis tryed to capture Bastogne.

(in BoB, Bastogne was bombed by the germans)

He actually was talking about the 'bastogne bit' in band of brothers where the 101st stormed a village - in other words from episode 7 - the breaking point - the town was called 'Foy'.

But at the end of the day, it doesnt matter what he does, relism in mapping is a hard part, which I have learnt the hardway myself to come up with a realistic map! (so did the guys of dod_suze) That is for the same reason why merderet / ramelle does not follow the Saving Private Ryan scene.

In summary, if he wants to make a capture the flag map where they fight for bastogne - let him! Its how much fun the players get out of it that counts! dod_caen afterall is faught from both sides starting either side of the map - not with the axis being in the center and pushed back through the city!

Happy mapping! :p

Bastogne is one of those cursed map names. Basically, anyone who starts a bastogne map doesn't finish, either that, or they do finish the map and release it, but not very many people like it and don't play it and it slowly disappears from the servers. It's sort of like Arnhem maps. BTW, hey IR, are you alive?

yea today I was in the mood to play a map that involves the capturing of Foy - part 7 of BoB doesn't happen in bastogne as pointed out earlier - make sure you don't call it anything with Bastogne in it, it was near bastogne but not in it...they captured a number of towns in a row like Foy itself. If you make a Bastogne map you wan the Axis tryin to push the 101st AB out.
