This is the second generation of the hands that I released many months ago. They have nice smooth finger tips, non-tanker sleves, are fully textured and ready to be assigned. These hands are scaled to the default hands so you can just drop them and assign them to a skeleton.

They look better, going to test them out now.

Good work ;)

EDIT: Could someone assign the hands to the default skeleton and post the smd?

That's just one of the many things I haven't yet mastered :(

Looks great, but...aren't the thumbs on the wrong sides? When I lay my hands flat with the palms up, my thumbs point out, not it :).

But then again, maybe it has to be this way for HL and I just don't know what I'm talking about... :D

That's just the picture, I took it upside down so you could see the palms. The hands are oriented correctly with their palms down.

Milkshape is free. It's called Kazaa. :) You don;t install them you have to have either the ms3d file of every one of your models or you need the smd and then all you do is do a few things here and there.

I didn't take the time to assign these hands to a skeleton so you'll have to do that part yourself. If you are unsure how to do that, well, you're either out of your league here, or you can learn how to use milkshape using the tutorials found in the faq stickied at the top of the forum.

This release is mainly intended for people releasing new or edited weapon models who don't like the default hands.

I gotta tell you, assigning em is a pain ... cause theres alot of things you gotta assign.. so I gave up. :D

06-09-2003, 02:55 AM
Hey all,

Im gonna grab these because I just got Milkshape and intend to learn how to use it.

Or alternatively I will get Ska to show me how to assign these if I cant do it lol.

Nice work.

I did the left arm in 5 minutes

06-09-2003, 04:16 AM
Do the other one and post it for em mr. nice guy :D

06-09-2003, 04:58 AM
Yeah, post em Selbstmord, for us milkshape3D beginners, newbies and noobs (like me).

06-09-2003, 05:21 AM
i was just saying that anyone not experienced with milkshape it would take a while and such... anyway gj :p

Can anyone recolour the sleeve texture that was in the zip file for me to the brown British battledress colour?????? It looks quite good for a British sleeve. I tried in photoshop, but the program hates me and I am quite a noob with photoshop :(

Ok, i just assigned the hands. and it wasent that hard to tell ya the truth. the whole thing took me about 10 minutes. there are couple of stray vertacies, that i need to apply (wich im probobly done doing by now) but over all it looks pretty good. hands look great on the model. :)

heres a pic

Hands (http://www.dodstudios.net/uploads/uploads/assignedlikeamofo.jpg)

ill' also see what i can do about making some british, american, and german sleeves for these.

And thats not all folks, i also compiled the k98 with these (just a test version) and they look great ingame! all except for this clipping on the reload, where the bullets go a bit into the hands, but its hardly noticeable.

heres ta screen shot:

Screeny - Warning, huge pic (http://www.dodstudios.net/uploads/uploads/tehahndsongun.jpg)

im defiantely gonna take a stab at reskinning the sleeves. and they also need to be submodelled as well. nice work on these hands Trig, they look great.

06-09-2003, 06:56 PM
Hmm... I don't think any computer's going to run those hands! Look at the poly's on it! Wow! I respect the man that make's HL2 Quality Models in HL1.

if you don't know how to assign them jus try it anyway. There is nothing funnier than reloading a gun and watching your fingers strecth to about 10inch cos you missed the odd face lol

Seriously though, it aint all that hard to assign them and they do look fanatastic so its well worth learning if you don't know how to do it.

That's nice work there russ, halflife does evil things to textures though, makes me sad. It filters it so much there's no room for subtlety.

Wow wow wow. Yeah, Trigger you've given so much to the community. Thanks :) Uh oh my Milkshape expires in 10 days! and I was starting to get the hang of it...:(

The Cheat

Yay! Rofl peoples computers will definitely run these, one guy. Half-life is 5 years old and a crazy ***** of a modified quake 2 engine but it's limitatations don't exceed high poly hands. And to tell you the truth, these hands are most likely better than the hands that will be in HL2.

Hey, where can I find a guide for this? At the moment all I can do is change the polys, textures and the QC. I know nothing about animations and I just purchased Milkshape. Please help!!

07-04-2003, 07:17 PM
when its finished could someone make an easy realease? I have no idea what all of you are saying on how to install these and i would like to have them in-game. Any help?:(

07-05-2003, 10:42 AM
I'll say what I did in Russ's thread:
The model for them are nice, but the textures are lacking. I'd suggest trying to texture them with the default DoD hand and sleeve textures, I think the results could be pretty nice

07-06-2003, 09:43 PM
Have these been attached to the default weapons yet and released?
