As requested, SS v4 with trenchcoats, no gasmasks. If I may so, looks damn spiffy. I think I'll be using these.

Keep in mind thats only a few of the classes there.

Thanks alot Devin, you made me a happy man.

06-04-2003, 07:00 PM
yea next can you release them with just the gear. no backpacks, no radio, no rockets. That'd own me.

Thats something you can do. All you need is a compiler and a decompiler. You can open reference smds in notepad, and delete groups from there. I.E. Backpack.bmp, leui_backpack.bmp (the radio), and Panzerfaust1a.bmp. Just remove each line that begins with the bmp and the numbers beneath it.

it'd look like this:

Panzerfaust.bmp
# # # #
# # # #
# # # #

Panzerfaust.bmp
# # # #
# # # #
# # # #

Panzerfaust.bmp
# # # #
# # # #
# # # #

Panzerfaust.bmp
# # # #
# # # #
# # # #

And so on and so on. Each line tells HL how to draw that polygon, and what bmp goes on it.

Cool stuff.

Devin, if you ever did historically accurate stuff, it'd be amazing. AMAZING!

06-04-2003, 09:11 PM
WALLAH!

Devin,

If you could post some without the panzerfaust that would be helpfull to me. Too high to go read tuts about compiling and downloading :D

PS: Ever tought of making new allies models "jacket" style like the dod-propaganda ? I think they would be awesome. I always loved the defaults but they lack style and perfection. I would definitly use new styled allied models :D

06-04-2003, 09:44 PM
Nice. These will look more realistic in Kalt than the SS ones without the coats.

Thank you for the quick update.

How many polies is it possible to shave off if you remove all the fancy items? (although I'll miss em).

What will the poly count be then compared to the default models. I am of course talking about the gasmask ones.

Trigger

the bullet chain for the mg is about 2000 polys, and the sniper has a luger that's probably between 500 and 1000. The rest of the stuff is fairly low, but probably totals up to around 500 polys each class, that's just an estimation.

Well i removed lots of stuff like Devin said. How do i make studiomdl.exe stuff into an mdl?

you mean how do you compile?

Can i use these models without getting kicked out for consistency problems?

Devin Kryss

@ Pinhead, Ill be on aim as devinkryss. Ill walk yah through it.

@Go83, Join a different server.

Go83

So can i use the models on servers with mp_consistency at 1 (on)?

I tried changing the models to the 3.1 models, and every server i joined (the 990 that have it on, out of 1000 total), forced me to download the original models.

Trigger
06-06-2003, 12:55 AM
I use custom models almost entirely and I have never been booted for file consistancy.

Sgt.Sinister
06-06-2003, 01:09 AM
The inconsistency problem only happened to me back in 3.1 when I couldn't use a custom sitck nade p model.

I haven't made one for 1.0 yet, but I plan on doing that soon.

Devin Kryss
06-06-2003, 08:14 AM
Go83, 3.1 models dont work in 1.0. And the reason it made you download them wasnt becuase of consistency problems, that means you must have delted, moved, or altered the player models file. If it cant find the models, it re-downloads them.

Great pack, but after playing with them all afternoon, i got irritated by the leather look on the heavy and MG class, also on some of the gear used (the back-pack and panzer faust for instance). Switching the textures of the coats seemed easy, as was removing the gear from the models have read you're tutorial on that. But i noticed some weirdnes on the models.... It seems that the textures used on the medium, heavy and MG class are bigger then those used on the k98, k43 and sniper class.
I tried to adjust the textures with photoshop, but the result is far from great.....

I made a few screenshots on what happend to the medium after switching the coat from the k43 with the black one
http://home.quicknet.nl/qn/prive/mjj.denooij/problems.jpg
Its quite a big picture... i know.... sorry for that

By now, i guess you already feel the request coming :) so here it comes.
Could you switch the coats from the medium, heavy and MG class with either the one from the k98 class or the k43 class (the light-grey or the darker grey)?
Im guessing it something pretty small to do, something with the mesh?? But im not sure. And even if i knew it was the mesh, i wouldn't know what to do to fix it :( So, im hoping you would..
Its just the coats, the removal of some of the gear is a piece of cake now, did it before, so why shouldn't it work the second time :)

I hope you will do this, im getting depressive after a night working on this and still be where i started :(

I'm sorry for resurrecting this old thread. But I think this would be a good idea. I too became irritated with the difference in how the model's looked.

Plus it would probably be good for me to have the lower poly Rifleman uniforms since I have a lower spec system.

If there's an easy way for me to do this myself, could someone point it out? Such as programs for decompiling and compiling. And some basic instructions on what I would have to change around.

Thanks in advance. And thanks to Devin for this great player model set.

If you had HLMV you could easily swicth the coats. Its the same coat model on all of em, just a different shade/color. Just export which ever coat you want em all to wear, and import it over the ones it needs to go over.

07-28-2003, 02:42 AM
Awesome. That was really easy.

A few more questions. The sniper helmet is in camo and I was wondering how to make the same as the others? Do I export and edit the bmp? If so, can I just crop out the camo texture, or do I have to copy and paste the helmet texture I want to keep, over the camo texture?

Thanks in advance.

:)

If you'd switch the leather one for the greyish and the brownish you would have black line running over his spine and shoulders.

I have a version on my HD with only those 2 coats and with some of the gear deleted, like the armband and panzerfaust. If there is interest in it, and if i can get the ok from devin, i will release it.

That would be "teh pwn." I don't think it would hurt to release them. I'm sure many people would use them. That's of course if Devin approves.

Constructive Criticism, if I may...the only reason I've never used these (or previous versions) is because of two things:

1) the boots look rather oversized.
2) the textures for their uniforms are...messy. They are blurry and stretched and not crisp and sharp. :(I suppose that's what happens with the trenchcoats though. Perhaps you could ditch the sloppy trenchcoat and just release a version of these without that?

If you could fix these two things, I'd love these. :D
