Bits & Pieces for modellers/hack jobbers

How do,

I was thinking the other night how bloody hard it can be for hack jobbers and modellers to find the right bit of equipment to put on our models. I myself have many a time had to download packs jus cos i liked the look of one bit of equipment on it.

So I came up with an idea. This was done on the old forums with headgear, but I was thinking why not make it open to all bits of gear.

Basically, if you have made or found a piece of equipment on a model that you think would be useful to the community jus pop it in a zip and slap it on here. It doesn't matter whether its a helmet, pair of boots, ammo belts, webbing, anything. Jus throw it in here so the community has better access to bits & pieces to make models.

To start the ball rolling heres the rank cheverons off my 2nd army lads, the officers hat and head gear off my caen tank hack job (kindly donated by Devin Kryss) and a pair of binocs (also by devin I think).

Hopefully if this catches on it will be made a sticky *hint hint* lol

Anyway, heres some pics of the stuff. Sorry for the weird black bits on the cheverons, they dont appear like that in game.

Hope you all like this idea and show your support and more importantly, your models :D

Great thread Ska. id post most of triggers stuff that i have, but thier not mine. so ill let him post his stuff here. :D

this thread could also become a request thread for certain peices modellers might need to mkae the packs they want.

What would be even better would be a website to go to, instead of just making one big thread, a webmaster could update the page with new stuff and pictures.

I'd do this but I don't have the cash to buy any webspace, nor am I very skilled with HTML (although I can make simple pages.)

Ska Wars

Glad to see you like the idea. I'll have a word with the boss at dodsupply.co.uk if we can make a sub site or summat dovated to model bits.

In the mean time please pose any stuff you have.

if possible could you type REL in the post subject if you are releaseing something.

and REQ if you are requesting summat. it would make it alot easier to see at a glance what is here.

Cheers for the support lads,

Just be careful to keep an eye out for elements, etc. that might be ripped from other games.

Not everyone understands the IP violation aspects.

I could probably contribute a HELL of a lot of stuff since I have everything necessary to convert models...

But I don't know if that would be okay here.

Ska Wars
06-04-2003, 03:52 PM
if you don't tell them where its from I won't ;) lol

Jus post them, if they're not allowed you can always remove them and apoligise i guess.

Whats people's general oppinion of this thread? Is it worth to keep going with it?

hey Trigger, how did you make those lenses transparent?

06-04-2003, 06:42 PM
Eh, seems to me like you just alternate pixels between the transparent one and some light grey.

Trigger
06-04-2003, 07:22 PM
$texrendermode "lense.bmp" "additive"

It's in the transparency tutorial located in one of the stickies at the top. Additive basicaly is an alpha transparency thing, where the darker the color the less opaque.

Here's something people have been requesting, arm patches that can be unique to each class, and can be on either arm. The textures included come from my 3rd Armored Division (http://www.dayofdefeat.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8125) set.

What I did is took a few polygons and put them over the arms in the proper places, there is a texture included that can be used to place rank and whatever other insignia over it, these patches use their own textures, so you needn't put anything on the sleve texture itself. The background has to be transparent on the patches to let the sleve texture show through and complete the effect.

Make sure the color you want to be transparent is the last color in the pallette, and include the following line in the qc to get transparency working:

$texrendermode "(name of texture here)" "masked"
