[MREQ] Rank Insignia for US Infantry

My request is for someone with the necessary expertise to add a little bit of flavor to the default US models. If you look at Ska Wars' 2nd Army set as well as Russian Conscript's 82nd Abn set, both models added new textures--specifically insignia--to the models. On 2nd Army, I believe different rank insignia were used for different classes, a departure from the default models which only have one rank.

What I ask is that someone do the same for the default US models. Retexture them so that each submodel's (based on weapon) rank can be customized...so that each submodel has its own small shoulder texture for anyone to stick whatever chevrons they deem appropriate. Also, it would be nice for one or all of the sergeant submodels (carbine, thompson, grease gun) to have a separate helmet skins so that a person could add an officer's stripe (vertical) to the helmet instead of being stuck with the default NCO stripe (horizontal).

Some of these details may seem tedious, but for a realism nerd like me they are absolutely essential :). And I know that there are others out there who would eagerly appreciate and use models with such modifications.

I'm afraid that adding individual ranks to the skin may be impossible (dont hold me to it). I haven't yet looked at the US model is detail but I think there are only two different body textures so you would only be allowed two different ranks.

The way I did it for the 2nd Army was by making a flat insignia shaped model and attaching it to the arm.

once my exams are over (in about 2 weeks) I'm planning on making a US player pack with new equipment and stuff like that. I'll be sure to put individual ranks on them.

The advantage of using individual models for the ranks is that you can use alot higher res skins for them so they aren't blurred as much.

As for the helmets you could make a different helmet model/skin for each class. The only problem with that is the helmets wouldnt fall off when a nade goes off/head shot. You may of noticed that the helmets dont fall off on my 2nd army. This is because each class is its own seperate submodel. Some people dont like this, but personally when my team mates are getting shot up around me I'm too busy running away to notice their helmets are still on lol

Anyway, basically what i'm saying is that when i make my US pack I will include the features you asked for lol

Let me say first that you ROCK. I hope your exams go well (and quickly!) so that you can get around to your pack.

And about adding individual ranks to skins...I'm not a skinner or modeller, so I didn't really phrase that part of the question well, but you're use of a flat model is exactly what I had in mind.

Yea, I'm with you on that; it doesn't bother me that helmets don't fly. I'd MUCH rather have my officer stripe. :D

But again, THANKS SKA WARS!

Here's something that should help make that easier. I've made a little addition that can be attached to the gear subgroup that, when properly textured, can let you add unique rank to each player. The model is simply a few polygons that cover the upper arms where the insignia should go, if you make a texture with your insignia, and mask it so that only the insignia shows, you can make unique rank or whatever on each class.

Cool site, nice place for patches and insignias.

The 8th infantry "pathfinders" sound like an airborne unit name, or am i just being dumb? lol

The 11th and 17th airborne insignias look pretty cool too lol

Whoa! The 79th infantry symbol is the same symbol that my father has on a gold ring of his. Except his is less elaborate, more jus a straight lined cross and the one of their insignia. I think the free french commandos used it too.

Anyone know what the symbol means? I'd ask my dad buts he's asleep lol
